ARSON SUSPECTED IN HOUSE FIRE

A fire authorities called suspicious damaged a one-story house in Northeast Salem Thursday. No one was injured.

The fire began on an outside wooden porch, burned through an overhang and into a rear room of the house at 850 North Mill Road, according to Salem Fire Captain Ronnie Perdue. The house sustained several thousand dollars in damage.

Perdue said neighbors told fire investigators that the owner of the house was out of town at the time of the fire. Salem police and arson investigators are working together on the case.
