Burrell ran 75 yards with a screen pass from quarterback Travis Blankenship with a minute left in the first half to give James River (2-1) an 18-7 lead. Blankenship had a 2-yard touchdown run for James River's first points, and Burrell got his second touchdown on a 4-yard run.
Wesley Cox scored both touchdowns and rushed for 79 yards to lead the Lord Botetourt offense. He scored on runs of 4 yards in the first quarter and 7 yards in the third. Rocky Lark added 73 yards on 12 carries for the Cavaliers.
Lord Botetourt (0-2) drove to the James River 15 in the fourth quarter, but missed a 32-yard field-goal attempt.
William Fleming 25, Halifax County 20: The Colonels' Matt Grogan intercepted a Carlos Jackson pass with 8:31 left in the game and returned it for the winning touchdown as Fleming defeated the Comets in a non-district game in South Boston.
The Colonels (2-1) mustered only 74 yards rushing, but were helped by the passing of Charles Burnette. Fleming's quarterback finished 5-of-12 passing for 65 yards and two touchdowns.
Burnette connected with Richard Wilson on a 30-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and a 10-yarder in the third.
Shawsville 27, Craig County 24: In Shawsville, Steven Lawson hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from Chris Graham with 26 seconds to play, giving the Shawnees a non-district victory over the Rockets in a wild game.
Craig County scored what it must have felt was the winning touchdown with 1:16 remaining when Jason Blankenship connected with Jake Gale on a 64-yard scoring play. Blankenship rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns for the Rockets (0-3) on runs covering 51 and 20 yards.
Graham scored on a 58-yard run to open the scoring for Shawsville (1-1) and also passed for 183 yards. He was intercepted three times. Scott Holloman rushed for 70 yards and added a 24-yard touchdown run for the Shawnees.
St.Anne's-Belfield 21, North Cross 2: Andy MacClaine passed for a pair of touchdowns to lead visiting St.Anne's-Belfield to a non-district victory over the Raiders.
MacClaine was 7-of-10 passing for 116 yards and touchdowns covering 27 and 28 yards for St.Anne's-Belfield (1-1).
North Cross (0-2) had a couple of lengthy drives that penetrated the visitors' 20-yard line, but those stalled and ended on downs.
Carter Lee rushed for 80 yards on 28 carries to lead the Raiders' offense.
Heritage 19, Franklin County 6: The Pioneers intercepted two Eagles passes in the end zone and also recovered two fumbles to preserve a non-district victory.
Franklin County (1-2) did have some success. Travis Kent rushed 12 times for 91 yards and quarterback Gray Hodges completed five of 14 passes for 95 yards.
The Eagles scored their only points of the night when Hodges hit Shaun Ferguson on a 36-yard touchdown strike with 10:32 left in the game.
Liberty 28, Buckingham County 0: Marvin Harris' 50-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was all the Minutemen needed to beat the Knights in a Seminole District game in Bedford.
Liberty (2-1 overall, 2-1 district) got another first-quarter touchdown when Corey Gilmore recovered a fumble in the end zone. The Minutemen went up 21-0 in the second quarter when J.J. Coles hit Gregg Reynolds with a 52-yard scoring pass.
Gerry Staples completed the rout with a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Staunton River 22, Nelson County 8: Jeff English rushed for 88 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Golden Eagles whipped the Governors in a Seminole District game.
English scored on runs of 36 and 23 yards in the second quarter and Willie Johnson had a 44-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter for Staunton River (2-0, 2-0).
Delmont Crawford rushed for 136 yards and scored the lone touchdown for Nelson County (1-2, 1-2).
