COVINGTON MAN KILLED IN CAR CRASH

Robert Lynn Perkins Jr., 35, was driving on U.S. 220 near the intersection of Virginia 43, state police said. About 11:15 p.m., Perkins ran off the road and crashed through a concrete bridge abutment. The car slid down the embankment and overturned in the James River. Perkins was pronounced dead on the scene.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation, police said.
