FLOYD PUTS END TO LOSING STREAK

Floyd County broke its three-game losing streak Monday by thumping Blacksburg 66-48 in a non-district girls' basketball game in Blacksburg.

The Buffaloes (4-3), who have won two consecutive Group A state titles, have played only Group AA teams this season.

Melissa Cantrell led Floyd County with 19 points. April Rogers led Blacksburg (2-6) with 13.

Liberty 59, Nelson County 34: In Lovingston, Liberty rattled off its fifth straight Seminole District victory as Felicia Miller scored 14 and Sue Cowlbeck added 11. Liberty is 4-1 overall and in the district. Nelson County (1-4, 1-4) was paced by Freda Taylor with 10.

Salem 79, Laurel Park 63: In Martinsville, the Spartans got back on track with an easy non-district girls' victory over the Lancers.Laurel Park (2-3) was paced by Isis Paddyfote, who had 19 points.

Parry McCluer 55, Rockbridge County 41: In Buena Vista, Parry McCluer beat Rockbridge County for the second time in a non-district game.

The Fighting Blues (3-2) pulled away after intermission as Avis Williams and Chrystal Humphries scored 22 of their 26 points.

Rockbridge County (2-3) was paced by freshman Kate Ides with 15.

George Wythe 72, Fort Chiswell 43: Tabitha Cook had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Maroons (4-2) to a non-district victory in Wytheville.

Radford 56, Grayson County 25: Radford got two double-doubles to beat Grayson County in a non-district game at the Bobcats' gym.

Narrows 56, Shawsville 39: At Shawsville, unbeaten Narrows got 22 points from Suzanne Webb and 15 assists from Melissa Lawrence in a non-district victory over Shawsville (5-2).

Staunton River 65, Appomattox 42: Stephanie McCardy had 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Golden Eagles downed the Raiders in a Seminole District matchup in Moneta.

William Byrd 64, Bassett 37: Cathy Smith hit 17 points as unbeaten William Byrd, the No.1 team in Timesland, beat Bassett for the second time this year in a non-district game.

Auburn 60, James River 36: Crystal Moles scored 20 points as the Eagles (3-2) rolled past the Knights (0-5) in a non-district contest at Buchanan.
