FERET'S SHOT SINKS VIKINGS

Blacksburg's Andrea Feret hit a 6-foot jump shot with 18 seconds left in overtime and Northside gave up its last chance with a turnover as the Indians won 51-50 in a non-district thriller at Blacksburg Tuesday night.

April Rogers scored 14 and Feret 12 for Blacksburg (3-6).

Northside was paced by Crystal Barrett with 14 and Rosse Hopkins with10.

Alleghany 63, James River 60: At Buchanan, Natasha Chapman scored 23 points, Katie Craft had 18 and the Mountaineers sank 23 of 37 free throws to hold off the Knights.

Julie Firebaugh and Sara Mundy scored 16 points and Melissa Baker had 10 for James River (0-6). Alleghany is 5-3.

Parry McCluer 39, Bath County 37: In Hot Springs, the Blues held the Chargers to three points in the second quarter and won their Pioneer District opener.

Glenvar 71, Covington 39: The Highlanders bolted to a 32-14 halftime lead and never looked back in winning a Pioneer District game at Glenvar.

Erika Hale, who made 10 of 14 free throws in the second half, led Glenvar (2-4, 0-1) with 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. Amy Layman, who made a pair of 3-pointers, scored 14 points and Amanda Kenndey added 12.

Joann Helton sank two 3-pointers in leading Covington with 14 points.

Highland 43, Craig County 41: The Rams used balanced scoring to beat the Rockets in a Pioneer District game in New Castle.

Amy Neil and Cindy Worcester led Highland (1-3) with nine points each. The Rams led by five points with 15 seconds left when Sommer Horn sank a 3-point goal to cut Craig County's deficit to a field goal.

Laura Nelson led Craig County (0-4) with 15 points.
