AKERS, Hattie Bell, 82, of Alum Ridge, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 1995, in a Blacksburg Nursing Home. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Alfred Reed, Alum Ridge; two sisters, Madeline Walker, Galax, Clara Scaggs, Floyd; one granddaughter, Marie Underwood, Alum Ridge; one grandson, Alfred Reed Jr., Radford; three great-grandsons. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. ATKINSON, Eldridge Maurice, 82, of Salem, died Wednesday, September 20, 1995. He is survived by his sons, Jack E. Atkinson, Bruce A. Atkinson; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Friday at the Lotz Salem Chapel by the Rev. COOKE, Randolph F., (``Butch""), 74, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 1995, at his residence. Mr. Cooke was the founder and former president of Red Carpet Tax Service and was retired from APCO after 40 years service. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, was a member of Williamson Road Masonic Lodge #163, was a member of the Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies and Kazim Temple and was also a life member of the Elks Club in Beckley, W.Va. Surviving are his wife, Virginia W. Cooke; his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Cooke, Blacksburg, Charles Cooke, Roanoke; his daughter, Pamela Cooke Mitchell, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his stepchildren and their spouses, Joseph P. and Halina Hale, Huntsville, Ala., Kit and Betsy Hale, Roanoke; a sister, Janice M. Cook, Clearwater, Fla.; also a very special sister-in-law, Ramona Berry, Fairfax. A cryptside service will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Friday, September 22, 1995, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Doyle and the Rev. Mark Washington officiating. A masonic service will be conducted by Williamson Road Masonic Lodge. The family suggest memorials be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital in his memory. The family will receive friends Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

DeHART, Ruby Pollard, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a daughter of the late William and Laura Pollard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. DeHart. She is survived by a son, L. Thomas DeHart, Roanoke; a sister, Nancy P. Sutphin, Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Inez Pollard, Vinton; sister-in-law, Natalie DeHart Carter, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Frances S. DeHart, Liverpool, N.Y.; 13 nieces and nephews. She was a retired Credit Manager of The Roanoke Times & World-News and was a member of Westhampton Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Friday, September 22, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Paul Matheny officiating. The family will receive visitors at the Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 21. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park.

EUBANK, Cody Edward, (``Ed""), 76, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 1995, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born in Albemarle County on May 25, 1919, and was a retired nurse at Eastern State. His wife was the late Louise Cash Eubank. He is survived by a brother, William E. Eubank, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Louise E. Marshall, Scottsville; a sister-in-law, Nan C. Allman, Bedford; two nieces and their husbands, Melba and J. Warren Craig, Bedford, Bettie and Charles Hess, Forest; a nephew and his wife, Jack and Wanda Cash, Goodview, and several other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 22, 1995, at Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Kenneth Lafon. The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and has requested that those wishing to make memorials consider the Leukemia Society of America, Virginia Chapter.

FIELDS, Lawrence Jr., 68, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, September 18, 1995. Funeral 10 a.m. Thursday, Lotz Vinton Chapel.

FORTE, Bettie L., of Atlanta, Ga., retired Professor of Classical Studies at Hollins College, Roanoke, Va., died at her home Tuesday, August 8, 1995. Before coming to Hollins in 1966, Professor Forte taught at Sweet Briar College. Funeral services were conducted in Columbus, Ga., on August 11.

GOAD, Lerty Lee, 80, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 1995, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. Survivors are three sisters, Tressie Burnette, Meadows of Dan, Lola Agee, Delpha Goad, both of Salem. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. KING, Ada E. Wilson, 76, of Salem, died Wednesday, September 20, 1995 at Lewis-Gale Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church , a member of the United Methodist Women at the church, and the Dorcas Tarpley Circle of the church. She had retired after many years from the Maid Bess Corp. in Salem. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merrman King. Survivors include brothers, James ``Jimmy"" Wilson, Glenn ``Willie John"" Wilson; sisters, Shirley W. Reese and Ruth W. Agee, all of Salem; ten loving and supportive nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 23, at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, with the Rev. Lee Jamison officiating. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

LILLY, Raymond Bruce, 84, of Radford, died Wednesday, September 20, 1995, in Radford Community Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Almetia Carson Lilly of Radford; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and William Minnick of Radford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carry and Dwen Lilly of Radford, Robert and Pricilla Lilly of Dublin; one brother, Walter B. Lilly of Fairlawn; one half sister, Madeline Meadow of West Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 22, at 11 a.m. at the Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church, New River, with the Rev. Will Shewey officiating. McGRAW, William R. Jr., 82, of Buchanan, died Tuesday evening, September 19, 1995, in a local hospital. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. McGraw was a manager of private clubs, serving at the University Club, Hidden Valley Country Club, Roanoke Country Club, and the Pick Wick Club. He was the owner of McGraw's Inn on Memorial Ave. in Roanoke, and was a former councilman and former mayor of Buchanan. Mr. McGraw was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church (Buchanan) and the American Legion, and was an avid golfer and football fan. Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise McGraw; a stepdaughter and her husband, Crystal and Raymond Perry, Richmond; two stepsons and their wives, Andrew and Judy Dillon, Roanoke, Glenn and Peggy Dillon, Lynchburg; seven stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat- grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside in Evergreen Burial Park at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. James W. Tinney officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #93, Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Rescue Squad (P.O. SHELTMAN, Harry H . Sr. (``Buddy''), 78, of Buena Vista, died Tuesday, September 19, 1995, at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was born July 24, 1917, in Rockbridge County, son of the late Charles H. Sheltman and Clelia Clifton Sheltman. He was preceded in death by two sons, Harry H. Sheltman Jr. and Robert H. Sheltman. He was a long time member of the Victory Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #126. He was owner and operator of Sheltman's Amoco & Grocery for 15 years. Surviving are three daughters, Judy Sheltman of Buena Vista, Donna S. Thornton of Swoope, Audrey J. Sheltman of Richmond; two sons, Brian Kevin Sheltman of Buena Vista, Charles W. Sheltman of Richmond; one sister, Helen Chittum of Buena Vista; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph (Butch) Grow, the Rev. Dean Staton and the Rev. Charles Mason officiating. SWAIN, Ruby Grogan, 66, of New York, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Monday, September 18, 1995. She was born in Roanoke County to the late Mary Bagley and Robert Grogan. Survivors include two daughters, Angle Swain and Pamela Swain, both of New York; one sister, Hazel Grogan, Roanoke; three sisters-in-law, Mary Grogan, Frances Grogan and Julia Grogan; a devoted nephew, Daryl Grogan; a host of nieces; other nephews; relatives and friends. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Williams Memorial Park. The Rev. J. R. Hughes will officiate. VIET, Ben Donald, 64, of Route 4, Box 74 A, Cypress Street, Dublin, Va., passed away Tuesday September 19, 1995 in the Radford Community Hospital. Born August 13, 1931 in Grundy County, Iowa, he was the son of the late John Viet and Ella Pruisner Viet. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Viet. He was a veteran of the United States Navy with 22 years of service. He retired with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, having served during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He was a graduate of Radford Uni versity, Radford, Va. Surviving are his wife, Mary Carroll Tofft Viet, Dublin; daughters, Susan M. Viet, Steamboat Springs Colorado, Barbara A. Garcia, Grand Junction, Colorado; sons, John H. Viet, Dublin, Va., David C. Viet, Fort Levenworth, Kansas; one sister, Esther Rumple, Porterfield, Wis; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m. from the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Father Jim Grealish officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visiting will be anytime after 2 p.m. Friday afternoon and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m Friday evening at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski. WIMMER, Ruby Louise Barger, 71, of Hardy, and formerly of Southeast Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 1995. She was a former employee of Yale Town and Lock of Salem. She was the widow of Windel Thomas Wimmer Sr. Survivors include one son, George Allen Wright Sr., Hardy; stepson, Tommy Wimmer, Roanoke; stepdaughter, Shirley Wade, Roanoke; two brothers, Howard C. Barger, Roanoke, Ralph E. Barger, Blue Ridge; three grandsons, George A. Wright Jr., Johnathan Wright, Scott Wright; stepgrandchildren, James and Timothy Wade; great-grandchildren, Damian and Shannon Wright.
