Blacksburg's Jewish Community Center will celebrate the Jewish New Year and the Day of Atonement later this month and in October. Celebrations for the New Year will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, and at 10 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. The Day of Atonement will be marked at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and 10 a.m. Oct. 4. Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. This week's readings will be Amos 8: 4-7; Psalms 113: 1-2, 4-8; 1 Timothy 2: 1-8; Luke 16: 1-13; 2 Corinthians 8: 9.
Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel at Church and Lee streets will have a Michaelmas festival from 2 to 5 p.m. today. Sunday is Sharing Sunday, with a discussion on "Rosh Hashanah, or the New Year," by Estill Putney. Topeco Church of the Brethren in Floyd County will culminate its yearlong 150th birthday celebration Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. with a Love Feast and Communion. Homecoming is scheduled Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. That day also will be "Minister's Day." All former pastors, interim pastors, summer pastors and members called to the ministry will be honored. The Rev. C.
