ADKINS, Leatrice Joyce, (``Joy""), 64, of Montvale, passed away Friday, September 22, 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walden and Garnie Smith, brother, Walter C. Smith and Billy Grayson Smith, sister, Charlotte Delores Smith. Joy was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by her husband, Earl F. Adkins; two sons, Jack D. Smith and David Adkins; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; four grandchildren, D. Matthew Adkins, Jessica Adkins, Jennifer Smith, Marc Smith, all of Montvale; brothers, Grover Smith of New Jersey, Walden Smith Jr. of Ohio; sisters, Macel Miller of Salem, Vivian Adkins of Dante, Lillian Litton of Dante, Helen Jablonski of Manville, N. J., Mary Ruth Gibson of Lebanon, Ann Anburgey of Salem. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, September 24, 1995, at 3 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the services. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Fun eral Home, Salem.

CARPENTER, Larry Lee, 45, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, September 18, 1995, in Venice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester O. and Virginia Parsons Carpenter. Among survivors are daughters, Michelle Lee and Heather Lee Carpenter, both of Anderson, Ind. Services were by the National Cremation Society Friday, September 22, 1995, in Venice, Fla.

HOLLAND, Christine Smith, 83, of Union Hall, died Friday, September 22, 1995 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born March 31, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. and Ida B. Toney Smith. She was a life-long member of Crafts United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by a sister, Lavaughan Ayers. Surviving is her husband, Clyde L. Holland, of the home; two brothers, Ford Smith, Glade Hill, and Basil Smith, Boones Mill; a sister, Oneida Shaon, Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 1995, at Crafts United Methodist Church, Glade Hill, with the Rev. Betty marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Boones Mill. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 23, 1995, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lynch Funeral Home. McDANIEL, John Robert, (``Billy""), 83, of Route 6, Bedford, passed away on Friday, September 22, 1995 in a Lynchburg hospital. He was born in Bedford County on June 23, 1912, a son of the late Sam McDaniel and Minnie Carter McDaniel. He was retired from McDaniel & Sons Meat Packers and was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Huddleston McDaniel; three sisters, Katherine McDaniel Nance, Virginia McDaniel Snead and Frances E. McDaniel, all of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, September 24, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery by the Rev. Eugene Condrey and the Rev. John Mitchell. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

MOSES, Isobell V. of Eagle Rock, died in Baltimore, Md. on Wednesday, September 20, 1995. She was a beloved mother of and survived by , Robert Garrison, Roanoke, Eva Bland, Pasadena, Md., Garfield Garrison, Clifton Forge; she is also survived by 2 sisters, Lennie Pettigen, California, Thelma Pettigen, Baltimore; 3 brothers, Bernard Merchant, Lexington, Issac Merchant, Clifton Forge, and Raymond Merchant, Baltimore. Friends may call at the Eagle Rock Funeral Home, Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Monday, 2 p.m. in the Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church with burial in Church Cemetery. NEUBERT, Michael Ryan, 23, of Vinton, died Wednesday, September 20, 1995 in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he was a student at East Tennessee State University, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, a graduate of William Byrd High School Class of '90. He was formerly employed by B.S.A. Landscaping and Krogers in Vinton. He was pre-deceased by his father, John H. Neubert Jr., and grandfather, John H. Neuber t Sr. Surviving are his mother, Patricia M. Neubert; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam and Mark Poff, Roanoke, Karen and Jose Marques, Atlanta, Ga., Nancy and Brian Anderson, Vinton; brother and sister-in-law, Brady and Patti Neubert, Arkansas; nieces, Victoria and Kathryn Neubert; grandmothers, Blanche Neubert, Baltimore, Md., Estelle Magliano, Towson, Md.; loving girlfriend of seven years, Julie Hendle, Roanoke County. Funeral services will be conducted from St. Andrews Catholic Church at 11:15 a.m. Monday, September 25, 1995 with Rev. James M. Fosnot officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. A christian wake service will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Sunday at 7 p.m. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. SIMMS, Ethel Virginia, 82, of Hampton, died Monday, September 18, 1995. A native of Wythe Co. and member of Calvary Baptist Church, she had moved to Hampton in 1989. Ms. Simms is survived by two sisters, Mary Stewart of Poquoson and Gladys Jefferson of Tampa, Fla.; and a brother, William G. Simms of Lakeland, Fla.; 17 nieces and nephews.
