James River (3-1) allowed Galax (0-4) just 55 yards of total offense. Defensive tackle Johnny Burrell anchored a solid front line with seven tackles for minus-7 yards.
The Knights scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters. Burrell, who also had two receptions for 64 yards, had a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Brian LeFlore scored from 8 yards out in the second and Mark Whiting tacked on a 15-yard touchdown run in the third. Billy Joe Carter converted all three extra-point kicks.
Glenvar 21, Floyd County 20: In Floyd, the Highlanders escaped with a non-district victory when a two-point conversion pass fell incomplete as the Buffaloes went for a victory in the final two minutes.
Floyd County quarterback Craig Reed connected with Matti Broom on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:22 left and the Buffaloes (0-4) eschewed a tie in favor of a two-point play.
Glenvar (2-1) scored with 8:54 to play when Corey Willis bolted 28 yards for a touchdown. Benji Linkous and Chris Carroll scored Glenvar's other touchdowns.
Nick Wohn returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to get Floyd County on the scoreboard quickly and Matt Bishop went 3 yards for the Buffaloes' other touchdown.
Christiansburg 27, Lord Botetourt 7: The Blue Demons (1-3) came up with the big plays and used a punishing ground game to overpower the Cavaliers (0-3) in a non-district game in Christiansburg.
The Blue Demons scored their first touchdown with 5:06 to go in the first quarter when Rocky Gravely blocked a punt and Matt Wright recovered in the end zone.
Christiansburg then forced a fumble and converted it into its second score, a 1-yard touchdown run by Larry Carter with 4 minutes to play in the half. The big play in the drive was a 33-yard dash by Chris Epperly, who added the extra-point kick.
The Demons broke it open with 13 points in the third quarter, including Mike Scott's touchdown runs of 16 and 64 yards.
Scott, a junior tailback, finished with 147 yards on 10 carries. Carter rushed 17 times and added 100 yards to Christiansburg's total of 319.
The only touchdown for Lord Botetourt came on a 30-yard pass play from Seth Meyers to Jeremy Conner with nine seconds remaining.
Wesley Cox led the offense for the Cavaliers with 81 yards rushing.
Parry McCluer 34, Craig County 6: At New Castle, Nathan Floyd ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Fighting Blues past the Rockets in a Pioneer District game.
Parry McCluer (3-1, 1-0) jumped on top 20-0 in the first half and cruised. The Blues rolled up 347 total yards, 329 of which came on the ground. Robert Snider, who had a 34-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, finished with 112 yards on eight carries.
Robert Blankenship's 84-yard kickoff return supplied the only score for Craig (0-4, 0-2) in the third quarter.
