The resident of an upstairs apartment plugged in the blanket and left the room to wash his face. When he returned, the bed was on fire, according to District Chief Phillip Taylor of the Roanoke Fire Department.
It took firefighters 15 minutes to bring the fire under control, he said.
Except for a small blister to the resident's hand, there were no injuries.
Taylor estimated damages at $20,000 with fire, smoke and water damage to the apartment and water damage to the downstairs unit.
