'CANES BLOWN OUT OF POLL; CAVS 11TH 25

Miami dropped out of the rankings for the first time in 10 years, and Colorado climbed to No.4 on Sunday in the Associated Press poll.

Miami, No.17 the previous week, fell out of the Top 25 after losing to Virginia Tech 13-7 on Saturday in Blacksburg. It was the Hurricanes' second loss of the season and their first to an unranked opponent since 1984. It left the Big East Football Conference without a ranked team for the first time in the league's four-year history.

Colorado rose three spots in the poll after beating then-No.3 Texas A&M 29-21. But the victory could prove costly for the Buffaloes because star quarterback Koy Detmer injured his right knee and may be out for the season.

Florida State and Nebraska, who have been ranked 1-2 all season, remained that way following easy victories over outmanned opponents.

Florida State received 42 first-place votes and 1,528 points after beating Central Florida 46-14, while Nebraska got 18 first-place votes and 1,498 points after defeating Pacific 49-7.

Florida, which didn't play Saturday, moved up one place to No.3 with two first-place votes and 1,399 points.

Southern Cal remained fifth in the media poll following a 31-10 victory over Arizona. Completing the Top 10 were Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

Virginia remained 11th after its 22-3 victory over Clemson and was followed by Tennessee, Auburn, Louisiana State, Notre Dame, Kansas State, Maryland, Washington, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Stanford, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Kansas. (Poll in Scoreboard)
