"Goals 2006: Where is it going?" will be the discussion topic at the Montgomery County Mainstream Citizens' Sept. 28 meeting.
Developed by a task force of parents, teachers and students, Goals 2006 established 22 initiatives, including lowering pupil-teacher ratios and improving educational technology.
The chairman, Tom Sherman, will make opening statements. School Board Vice-Chairman Barry Worth and Board of Supervisors representative Joe Gorman will also speak and answer questions from the audience.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Next month's meeting, scheduled for Oct. 26 and titled "Schools or Prisons?"
Latex paint exchange
BLACKSBURG - The Montgomery County Improvement Council and the Blacksburg Recycling Office is offering a latex paint exchange on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Blacksburg High School parking lot.
People may come by and pick up as much free paint as they would like. Montgomery County, Blacksburg and Christiansburg residents can bring usable latex paint for others to use. Businesses may dispose of paint if a company representative stays with the paint until it is disposed of.
All paint brought for disposal must be latex-based, in the original container, and in usable quality (i.e. has not been frozen). Oil-based paints or other paint-related chemicals will be rejected.

Fall festival Saturday
CHRISTIANSBURG - English Meadow Retirement Residence will have a Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The festival will feature music, an antique and collectible exhibition, and food.
The Christiansburg volunteer fire and rescue department will bring a vehicle for display. All proceeds will benefit the department.
