NOVELL, Ilice Y., 88, of Route 1, Pulaski, passed away Monday, September 25, 1995 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born February 6, 1907 in Fancy Gap, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie York and Maggie Bell Edwards York. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Novell, and three brothers, George R. Edwards, Albert Quesenberry and Dewey Edwards. She was a member of the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, since 1949, member of the Ladies Quilting Group, Ladies Ministry and Young at Heart Club, and a member of the AARP. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Barbara Novell, Middletown, Ohio, Jerry L. and Susie Novell, Princeton, W.Va., Alvin D. and Barbara Novell, Salem; four grandchildren, Gwendlyn Novell Brock and Rev. Tony Brock, Rob Novell, Jeremy Novell and Andrew Novell; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Brock, Connor Brock; and one sister, Mrs. T. C. (Marry Etta) Lewis, Pulaski. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, with Charles R. Novell, Jerry L. Novell, alvin D. Novell and Pastor Robert Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. Visiting will be anytime Wednesday after 2 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski, Va. Mrs. Novell will be placed in the church by 10 a.m. Thursday to lie in state until the hour of service. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, is handling arrangements.

ADAIR, Pearl M., of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Bible Institute and was an Associate of the late Rev. Kathryn Gorman, Pastor of Calvary Memorial Church. Surviving are several nieces and nephews who reside in Ohio. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Larry Eenigenburg officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

CLAYTOR, Mary Fred, 93, of Lynchburg, and formerly of Bedford, died Tuesday, September 26, 1995 at Drinkard Health Care Center in Lynchburg. She was born in Bedford on March 11, 1902, a daughter of the late Andrew Boyd Claytor and Lucy Parr Claytor. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister, Andrew Boyd Claytor Jr., John Mason Claytor, William Graham Claytor, Francis P. Claytor, Robert Claytor, and Katharine Parr Claytor. She was a graduate of Radford College, and received her Masters Degree at the University of Tennessee. She was a Home Economist with the Department of Agriculture, and Southern Flavoring Company. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Chur ch in Bedford, and was a past member of the Board of Visitors of V.P.I. She is survived by three nephews, Andrew B. Claytor III, Bedford, William M. Claytor, Roanoke, Robert Claytor, Staunton; three nieces, Imogen C. Withers, Winston-Salem, N.C., Suzanne C. Gilbert, Bedford, Camille C. Stewart, Charleston, W.Va.. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, September 27, 1995 at 2 p.m. at Westminster-Canterbury Chapel in Lynchburg. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church in Bedford. Arrangements are being handled by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

COFFMAN, William H.,(``Willie""), 86, of 417 East College St., Bridgewater, formerly of Collins Va., died Tuesday, September 26, 1995 in Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for a short time. He had been in failing health for a number of years. He was born in Fincastle, Va., on August 11, 1909, and was a son of the late William Kenton and Ida Mae Garst Coffman. He was a graduate of Daleville Academy, Class of 1932, was a member of Bassett Church of the Brethren, he was active and served as church institutional representative of the Boy Scouts, he was a past church board chairman, church treasurer, former Deacon, and served on other committees. He retired from Stanley Furniture Company as a mail clerk. On june 30, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Gertrude Brown, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, David E. Coffman, Bridgewater; one daughter, Margaret C. Oliver, Anderson, S.C.; two sisters, Edna C. Duncan, Roanoke and Virginia C. Prease, Buchanan; two brothers, Clarence and Robert Coffman, both of Roanoke; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, September 28,1995, at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Robert E. Alley, Rev. R. Douglas Jones and William L. Mengebier officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Bridgewater. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. DONNELLY, Laretta Hylton, 84, of Willis, passed away Monday, September 25, 1995, in a Salem Hospital. Survivors include husband, Harold M. Donnelly, Willis; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Harold (""Jack"") Donnelly, Willis, and Wayne and Zelwood Donnelly, Floyd; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauleda and Angus Dunn, Staunton, and Kate and W.J. Boone, Willis; a sister-in-law, Dora May Hylton, Amissville; five grandchildren, Sandra D. Johnson, Michael W. Donnelly, Susan D. Board, Tracie D. Evans, Wendy D. Vaughn; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday at the Blue Ridge Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Terry Wilson officiating. FROGG, Elsie Ethel, 73, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, September 25, 1995 in a local hospital. Survivors include two sisters, Katherine (Edward) Gregory and Virginia (James) Crawford, both of Roanoke; three nieces, Elaine Adams, Roanoke, Carol Jean Long, Richmond, and Viola Taylor, Boones Mill; four nephews, Robert Gregory, Chicago, Ill., Alvin Frogg, Woodbridge, Joel D. Crawford, Roanoke, and James Gregory. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. J. R. Hughes will officiate, with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. HENDERSON, Ashby Hammond, 87, of Troutville, died Monday, September 25, 1995. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kent W. and Eva Ross Henderson. He was a retired dairy farmer and member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, holding numerous positions within the church. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Roanoke-Botetourt Telephone Company for close to 50 years, a former member of the Board of Directors of First National Exchange Bank of Troutville, member Advisory Board of the Bank of Fincastle, Daleville Branch, founding member and first president of the Botetourt County Farm Bureau, member of Board of Directors of the Roanoke Hollins Stock Yard, member and president of Roanoke Milk Producers Association, former member Board of Directors of the Old Dominion Division of Dairymen, Inc., Board of Directors of S.U.D.I.A., founded and named Robot Breeders Association, life time member of Lord Botetourt Young Farmers Organization, former member of the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce, former member of the Botetourt Board of Supervisors with 8 years service and served with the Botetourt County Draft Board. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Leffel Henderson; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry W. and Donna H. Henderson, Troutville; sisters, Mrs. J. M. (Kate) Stull, Roanoke, Mrs. L. T. (Pat) Chance, Troutville; sister-in-law, Mrs. Grover (Margaret) Henderson, Trinity; grandson and spouse, Jeffrey W. and Karen E. Henderson; granddaughter, Ashley L. Henderson; five nieces; one nephew. He was to be a great-grandfather. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 28, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. McNUTT, Beulah U., 91, of Roanoke, passed away Monday night, September 25, 1995, at a local nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. McNutt Sr.; a son, Jimmy McNutt; and a son-in-law, Clay StClair. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Sherrill and Ruth McNutt, Charles and Lois McNutt, all of Roanoke; two daughters and son-in-law, Marge and Jim Lawson of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Peggy StClair of Roanoke; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, teaching in primary and junior departments for many years. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Salem Chapel, Thursday, September 28 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Billy White and Rev. Charles A. Watkins officiating. MONNIE, Dr. Carl Francis, 77, of Union Hall, died Tuesday, September 26, 1995. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Julia C. Monnie; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Barry Ferguson, Union Hall; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Evelyn Monnie, Lodi, Calif., and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorthy and Harry Jones, Grand Junction, Colo., Marjorie and Bob Sorensen, Redding, Calif. Dr. Monnie was a chiropractic physician in Roanoke for 40 years. POWELL, William Lester, (``Shorty""), 79, of Charlotte, N.C., died Tuesday, September 26, 1995. Born in Yanceyville, N.C., he was a son of the late Ira and Lula Lester Powell, and was a retired foreman for Merita Bakery. Mr. Powell was a member of Statesville Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, William Lester Powell Jr. He is survived by his wife, Margie Powell; son, Dennis Lynn and wife, Christina Powell, San Jose, Calif.; daughters, Rebecca and husband, B. TAWNEY, Eunice Blane, 85, of Pembroke, died Monday evening in a Roanoke hospital. Born in Newport, she was a daughter of the late James Harve and Maggie Saunders Link. She was the wife of the late Alvin O. Tawney and the mother of the late Eleanor M. Vest, and was a member of the Pembroke Christian Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tommy Epperly of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Meadows and wife Vicki of Pembroke, Randy Tilley and wife Leketa of Pearisburg, and Robin Gallagher and husband Danny of Pembroke; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Meadows and Caleb Tilley; one stepgranddaughter, Shelley Epperly of Narrows; and several neices and nephews. VIA, Venice Creasy, 78, of Roanoke died Monday, September 25, 1995 in a local Nursing Home. She was the widow of Marvin Edward Via. Mrs. Via was a long time employee of Good Year, working most of her years in the downtown store, where she retired as Office Manager. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Craig E. and Mary L. (""Beth"") Via; two granddaughters, Courtney and Kristen; brother-in-law and wife, Albert and Ann Via, all of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Edna Via, Lexington, Va., and Ruth Via, Ashland, Ky.; first couisin, Virginia Grobin and her husband Allen Jr. and family, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
