HIGHLANDERS DROP FLAMES IN OVERTIME

Eric Rarus and Che Henderson each scored goals in overtime as Radford defeated Liberty 4-2 in a Big South Conference men's soccer game in Lynchburg on Wednesday.

Rarus scored the first overtime goal three minutes into the second period and Henderson was credited with a goal 10 minutes later when he deflected one in off a Liberty defender. Ian Spooner's goal in the 68th minute tied the score and sent it into overtime. Radford (6-1-1 overall, 2-0 Big South) won its third straight match. Liberty is 2-6-1, 1-2.

Freshman Dickie Weart scored three goals to lead Roanoke to a 6-1 non-conference men's soccer win over Shenandoah in Salem.

Anibal Avalos, Billy Renfro and Shane Greene added goals for Roanoke 7-3).

Susan Sautter got her second hat trick of the year to lead Ferrum past Guilford 6-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game in Ferrum.

Cindy Rhinehart added a goal and an assist and Daniella Giusto and Alexis Rihl also had goals for the Panthers (4-3).

Christina Beahan had the lone goal for Guilford (2-7).

Aimee Vaughan had a goal and an assist as James Madison's women's soccer team defeated Virginia Tech 3-1 at Blacksburg.

The Hokies (2-5-1) took an early 1-0 lead when Michele Hagar scored from 10 yards out in the seventh minute. Heather Selvitelle tied the score for James Madison when she used an assist from Vaughan to score on a foul kick in the ninth minute.

James Madison took the lead for good at the 33rd minute when Vaughan scored on a penalty kick. The Dukes added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Therese Wolden took a pass from teammate Ashley Williamson and scored from five yards out.

Ali Ogelsby and Annie Pellicio scored goals in the final 8:17 to lift Roanoke to a 3-2 win over Lynchburg in an ODAC field hockey match at Lynchburg. It was the Maroons' first win over Lynchburg (3-3) in seven years. Roanoke is 5-1.

There will be no practice tonight at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway. Practice will be Friday from 3 p.m. until dark.
