BAUMAN SETS W&L RECORD

Junior Michelle Bauman set the Washington and Lee career points record with three goals Thursday as the Generals routed Randolph-Macon Woman's College 8-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer game in Lexington.

With her six-point afternoon, Bauman broke the career points mark with her 52nd goal in three years. On each of her three goals, Bauman got her assist from sophomore Leighton Kirby.

Goalkeeper Delia Coyle got the shutout, registering 14 saves for the Generals (5-1, 2-0).

Justin Young led Northside to the regular-season Blue Ridge District golf title at Countryside, qualifying the Vikings for the Region III tournament in Collinsville.

Young fired an even-par 55 for 14 holes to win the individual title, almost 20 strokes better than second-place George Pickrel of Rockbridge County over six matches. Young's teammate, Jason Orlando, was third overall, nine shots behind Pickrel.

The Vikings won by six strokes over Rockbridge and Salem. Northside won its second consecutive district title and is the favorite in the Blue Ridge District tournament on Oct. 9.

Five players scored for Roanoke as the Maroons downed Sweet Briar 5-1 in an ODAC women's soccer game in Sweet Briar. Courtney Gross, Meredith Arnott, Tori Erickson, Stephanie Moore and Amy Waldman had goals for the Maroons.

Rich Daughtridge and Mike Polhamus scored goals as VMI beat Georgia Southern 2-1 in a Southern Conference men's soccer game in Lexington. The Keydets (4-5, 1-2) struck early when Daughtridge scored one minute into the game.
