AT ANGLICAN CHURCH, SERVICE IS A PET PROJECT

St. Francis Anglican Church could go to the dogs Sunday when it conducts its annual Blessing of the Animals. Members of the public are invited to bring their pets in celebration of the feast of St. Francis. The blessing will occur after the 10 a.m. service in the churchyard. Pets must be leashed or caged, and pet sitters will be available during the service. Refreshments will be offered after the blessing.

\ SERVICES

Snowville Baptist Church will sponsor a youth rally today at 7 p.m. Youths and youth leaders are invited for refreshments and a message from the Rev. Ken Chapman, a former youth pastor. 639-9355.

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. This week's readings will be Amos 6:1, 4-7; Psalm 146:7-10; 1 Timothy 6:11-16; Luke 16:19-31; 2 Corinthians 8:9.

Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel on Church and Lee streets will host Estill Putney, who will speak on "The Shadow Knows," Sunday at 7 p.m. Wednesday Chris Faulconer will teach the fifth segment in the art of storytelling at 7 p.m. 953-5041. Also Wednesday, Estill Putney and John Dumais will conduct the fourth in a series of workshops on the "Celestine Prophecy" at 7 p.m. 951-4848.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg, will host Rudi Gelsey, who will talk on "In Search of Life-Affirming Community: Beyond Rugged Individualism and Mindless Conformity, Creating a Loving, Caring Community," at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Abundant Life Fellowship in Christiansburg will have a revival Sunday through Thursday at 7 p.m., with services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. 382-4443.

Blacksburg's Jewish Community Center will celebrate the Jewish Day of Atonement at 6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday. The celebrations are free for students and members. First Missionary Baptist Church in New River will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its Gospel Choir Oct. 8. The Rev. Michael Bratton and The Spirits of Joy from First Baptist Church in Pearisburg will be special guests.

The Rev. Earnest Chenault will appear during a revival at Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church in New River Oct. 8-11. He will appear on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Oct. 9-11 at 7 p.m. Church members may buy chrysanthemums for $5 in remembrance of a special person in their lives, and the fellowship hall will be dedicated to Charlie Forbes, a former Sunday school superintendent. The Radford Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Second and Carter streets will have a revival Oct. 810. Services will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 8 and at 7:15 p.m. each night. The guest speaker will be Ed Parrish Jr., from Columbia, Va. 639-3126.

Oak Grove Church will celebrate homecoming Oct. 8 with the Rev. Willie Yates as guest speaker. The Bolt Brothers and the Other Brothers will perform at 2 p.m., with Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and a potluck lunch at 12:45 p.m.

Edgemont Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Christiansburg will have homecoming Sunday. Sunday School will be at 10 a.m., with worship at 11 a.m. Carl Bean, the church's pastor, will speak. 382-3765.

Topeco Church of the Brethren in Floyd County will culminate its yearlong 150th birthday celebration today at 7 p.m. with a Love Feast and Communion. Homecoming is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. That day will also be "Minister's Day," where all former pastors, interim pastors, summer pastors and members called to the ministry will be honored.
