TROUTVILLE MAN BEATEN; 3 ROBBED IN ROANOKE

A 23-year-old Troutville man was badly beaten early Friday by a group of teen-agers in Northwest Roanoke.

Shortly after 1 a.m., police found Christopher Patrick Rhoton lying in a pool of blood in the first block of 24th Street Northwest. He was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was in satisfactory condition Friday, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said a witness told them that he saw three teen-age boys kicking Rhoton.

In another incident, a band of men robbed three people who were walking in the 2800 block of Hershberger Road Northwest late Thursday.

Police gave this account: About 11:35 p.m., two women and a man were approached by four men who demanded their purses and wallets. The robbers took pocketbooks from the women and money and a watch from the man. The male victim was cut on the arm after he told the robbers he did not have a wallet. He refused treatment at the scene.

The robbers left the area in a maroon Chrysler.
