AYERS, Audrey Irene, 73, of Union Hall, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 28, 1995. Born in Franklin County February 22, 1922, she was preceded in death by her parents, Taw and Blanche Altice, one sister, Ethel Perdue, and one brother, John Altice. She was a retired employee of MW Manufacturers and a member of Christian Fellowship Church. Surviving are her husband, James (``Jim'') C. COE, James E. Jr., (``Jim""), 62, of Chilhowie, died Friday, September 29, 1995, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Mr. Coe was a retired employee of U. S. Gypsum Co., a veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Chilhowie Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Coe. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley (Hogston) Coe, Chilhowie; two brothers, Mr. Gene Coe, Saltville, Mr. Bill Coe, Chilhowie; three sisters, Mrs. Pauline Call, Saltville, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, Blacksburg, Mrs. Mary Stuart, Virginia Beach; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Florence Davidson, Peggy Frye, Anna Lee Ford, Judy Camron, Charles Hogston and Clarence Call. GILLASPIE, Willie Alford, 80, of Route 3, Bedford, passed away Thursday, September 28, 1995 in the Bedford County Memorial hospital. He was born April 29, 1915 in Bedford County, a son of the late Charley Gillaspie and Ella Howell Gillaspie Mayhew. His wife was the late Glennie Overstreet Gillaspie. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Wilson's United Methodist Church. He is survived by a brother, Charlie Gillaspie, Jr. Bedford; several nieces and nephews. NICKS, Lois Naff, 82, of Vinton, died Thursday, September 28, 1995, at home. She was a musician and widow of former Vinton mayor Guthrie Weldon (Gus) Nicks. Mrs. Nicks was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School, the Shelton-Amos School of Dramatics and a music major at Salem College of Winton-Salem, North Carolina. Mrs. Nicks contributed greatly to the musical life of The Roanoke Valley for 50 years. She served as minister of music at South Roanoke Baptist Church and Vinton Baptist Church the latter for 10 years. She trained numerous piano and vocal students. Several of her students went on to sing with major symphonies, choir groups and opera houses while others became music teachers. Mrs. Nicks often accompanied local singers at various functions and concerts. She along with her husband and others helped to organize and produce performances of Handel's Messiah featuring the Vinton Choir Society. She was very active in the Thursday Morning Music Club and the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Vinton Lioness Club, Vinton Historical Society, Vinton Seniors. Surviving are daughter, Faye Nicks Thacker and son-in-law, John B. Thacker, Roanoke, daughter, Nancy Nicks Bucklin and son-in-law, James Langdon Bucklin, Broomall, Pa; two grandchildren, Teresa Delong Bentley and Brian Clark Bucklin; one great-grandchild, Christine Nicole Bentley. Funeral services will be held at the Vinton Baptist Church 11 a.m. Monday with the Dr. William L. Ross and Rev. Bruce Robinson officiating. Special music will be provided by Rev. Chris Munroe, Roberta Heath and Lois Smith. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. SEYMOUR, Marjorie S., 58, of Roanoke, died Thursday, September 28, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a teacher at William Ruffner Middle School, a former Chairman of the Roanoke City Republican Committee, former Chairman of the local Chapter of National Education Association. Mrs. Seymour was an alumna of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Surviving are her husband, Horace W. Seymour Jr.; sons and daughters-in-law, Horace W. III and Sooki Seymour, Manchester, N.H., John W. and Mary Seymour, Charlottesville; daughter and fiance, Elizabeth M. Seymour and Victor Brunsden, Lancaster, Pa.; two grandchildren, Horace W. WASHBURN, Frances H., 76, of Trinity Terrace, Ridgeway, died Friday, September 29, 1995 in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born February 9, 1919 in Stokesdale, N.C., daughter of the late Eller Aubrey Hutchins and Luella Statterfie ld Hutchins. She was a Nurse's Aide for Martinsville Convalescent Center, and also worked at Dupont for several years. She was a previous owner of Washburn Cafeteria and Ridgeway Drive Inn. She was a charter member of the Rich Acres Christian Church, a graduate of Stokesdale High School and Draughn Business College. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Washburn on October 20, 1994, two infant brothers and one sister, Lillie Mae Hutchins. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra W. Woronowicz, Ridgeway; sons, James Daniel (``Danny'') Washburn Jr., Roanoke, Charles A. (``C.A.'') Washburn, Martinsville, Bobby R. Washburn, Ridgeway, John M. WILSON, Robert Harvey, 89, originally of Radford, died Wednesday, September 27, 1995 in Toledo, Ohio, where he and his wife, the former Hazel Thacker, had lived since his retirement in 1975 from the U.S. Department of State. Mr.. Wilson was the son of the late Harvey P. and Lydia Zanith (Farmer) Wilson. His deceased sisters are Mackie Hale and Daphana Huffman. Mr. Wilson was a respected leader in the field of industrial education, training and development in Virginia, and later was active on the international scene. Throughout his life Mr. Wilson was a visionary who touched and made a difference in many peoples' live s through his chosen career, and particularly in the contributions he made through his private life to the developmentally disabled population and their families. Mr. Wilson will be remembered by many in our area for developing vocational education in the Radford schools in the 1930's and as Radford High School's first teacher of industrial arts and apprenticeship training. (Later in his career he became the Director of Apprentice Training, Dept. of labor for the Commonwealth of Va.) During World War II, he was a civilian administrator in the Pentagon, serving as director training in the Army Ordinance Corp. In 1947, he directed the conversion of the 5,000-bed U.S. Army hospital near Staunton, Va. into the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, serving the physically disabled population in Va. and surrounding areas. While with the Agency for International Development, U.S. Dept. of State, from 1956 to 1975, Mr. Wilson spent eleven years in Bolivia, Venezuela, and Brazil, working primarily with the education, labor and economic ministries in those countries in developing national man-power programs. He also helped to set up vocational training programs in developing countries in Africa and Asia. Throughout his life Mr. Wilson was active in various ways to serve the developmentally disabled population. In the 1950's he was the founder of the Richmond, Va. Association for Retarded Citizens and was instrumental in starting the first school for developmentally disabled children. During his years in South America he continued his interest in helping this special population by volunteering his time to work with parents in Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela to set up associations to work with the developmentally disabled in those countries. After his retirement to Toledo, Mr. Wilson was active on the board of the Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio and was honored in 1981 with that organization's Lamplighter Award, the first person outside the medical profession to receive it, and in 1992 the Epilepsy Center began giving the annual Robert H. Wilson Service Award. Mr. Wilson graduated from Radford High School, received his B.S. degree from Radford University, and his M.S. degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Hazel T. Wilson of Sylvania, Ohio; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mrs. Jerry (Anne) Sandvig, Toledo, Ohio, and Miss Jayne Wilson, Sy lvania, Ohio; three sisters, Miss Kathleen Wilson, Mrs. Ruth Price and Mrs. Lewis (Woodie) Webb, all of Radford; three grandchildren, Mrs. William (Karen) Samonides, Toledo, Ohio, Morris (Marie) Sandvig, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Christopher (Linda) Sullivan, Memphis, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger officiating.
