Caldwell anniversary

Harry and Madeline Caldwell celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 30, 1995. The celebration was held at Airlee Court Baptist Church, where they are members, hosted by their daughters and sons-in-law. The couple was married September 28, 1945 in Boones Mill, Va. She's the former Madeline M. Williams. They have four daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Short of Roanoke; Wanda and Randy Jackson of Roanoke; Brenda and Richard Witt of Goodview; and Harriet and Jimmy War e of Charlotte, N.C. They have ten living and one deceased grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He is retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and she is retired from Montgomery Greene Co., Inc.

Chewning anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Chewning of Salem are celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary today. They were married on October 1, 1955 by Rev. Raymond Musser at Central United Methodist Church. John was born in Orange, Virginia, has lived in Salem for 48 years, and is employed by NSW Corporation. Bettye, the former Bettye Massey, is a lifelong resident of Salem, and is retired from General Electric. They have one daughter.

Plybon anniversary

Silas and Frances Plybon of Rocky Mount recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a reception at Contentment Island Clubhouse at Smith Mountain Lake. The celebration was hosted by their 5 children, spouses and 7 grandchildren. The couple were married on October 3, 1945. She is the former Frances Ferguson and is a retired assistant county registrar. He is retired from Appalachian Power Co.

Rucker anniversary

A ``Celebration of Love Party'' honoring their parents, Howard & Mary Rucker on their 25th wedding anniversary, was held Sept. 17, 1995, in the fellowship hall at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The party was hosted by their family, Elaine & Truett Smith of Salisbury, N.C., Pete & Dana Kandis of Roanoke, Don L. Rucker of Dana Point, Ca. and was assisted by granddaughters, Maria Gaines & Nicole Hannon. Family & friends enjoyed a memorable day with a buffet dinner and entertainment by Sherri Monti D.J. Service of Charlotte, N.C. Out of town guests from Virginia, North Carolina and California, included sisters: Ethel Roop, Rubye Rossiter, Bertha Contos, Helen & James Poulos. Grandchildren, Nicole & Bob Hannon, Maria Gaines, Thomas Ka ndis; great-grandson, Casey Gaines; nieces & nephews: Linda Parrous, Connie Katsopoulos, Kiki Manis, Helen & Charles Roupas, Ret. Col. Roger & Alice Coffey, Rita and Deno Poulos and friends: James Contos, Vel Dugger, Alex & Paul Chryssikos, Sheree Monti and Arnold Crotty. Ret. Adm. Alvin S. & Barbara R. Newman of San Diego, Ca. and Katherine Roupas of Charlotte, N.C., were unable to attend.
