BEST BUCK FROM BEDFORD COUNTY

The top deer of the 1994-95 hunting season was a 16-point Bedford County buck that won first place at the recent Virginia Big Game Show in Williamsburg.

The buck was killed the next-to-last day of the gun season in the eastern end of the county by Mark Collins of Lynchburg, who was hunting on private property. It scored 242 6/16 under Virginia's measuring system.

The contest produced a state-record bear for Roger Wyant, whose Rockingham County bow-killed trophy scored 31 2/16. The previous record, a Page County bear killed by Russell Lam of Elkton, had stood since 1969. It scored 30 6/8.

The top turkey in the show was a Halifax County bird killed by Owen Williams that scored 75 2/16.

A 16-point Pulaski County buck that scored 201 8/16 won first place in the muzzleloding category for Kevin Alley.
