EDMONDSON, Samuel Robert, 82, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, October 1,1995. Funeral 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel.

FINLEY, Gladys A. 70, of Salem, formerly of East Rockaway, N.Y., passed away Sunday, October 1, 1995, at a local hospital. Surviving are her husband, Robert (``Bob"") Finley; daughter, Pauline Finley, Roanoke; sons, Steven Finley, Salem, Donald Finley and John Finley, both of Long Island, N.Y. Also surviving are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In New York she was a member of Bethany Congregational Church and served on the Board of Deacons. By her own request her body was donated to medical science. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to either the American Cancer Society or Good Samaritan Hospice, Roanoke. She was a good lady and will be greatly missed by all.

GIBSON, Joseph Robert, 61, of Shawsville, died Sunday, October 1, 1995, in a local hospital. He is survived by four sisters and a brother-in-law, Dera and Lloyd Bond, Laura Perdue, Mary Hayes, all of Danville, Dora Abdulkadir, Palm Coast, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hardney and Marian Gibson, Roanoke, Clay and Ellen Gibson, Fairfax. Graveside services will be held in Franklin Memorial Park, 1 p.m., Tuesday, with the Rev. Arlie Cook officiating. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

HALBERT, Elbert Allen, 60, of Greensboro, N.C., died Monday, October 2, 1995. Graveside service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Burial Park. Arrangements by Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville.

HOLMAN, Hazel Seatz, 82, of Marion, died Monday, October 2, 1995 at her home. She was the widow of William E. Holman. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Huffman, Rock Island, Ill., Katherine Greek, Temple City, Calif., Barbara Adams, Pflugerville, Texas; two sons, Gene Holman, Tampa, Fla., Jimmy Holman, Marion; three sisters, Nellie Gibson, Grace Wagoner, Annie Parsons, all of Todd, N.C.; four brothers, Rev. Eugene Seatz, Granite Falls, N.C., Edgar Seatz, Conley Seatz, Earnest Seatz, all of Todd, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 5, 1995 at 2 p.m. at Falling Water Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Boyette officiating. Burial will follow in Attoway Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

KENNEDY, Stella Young, 87, of Pearisburg, died Monday, October 2, 1995. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Volney, Va. on February 9, 1908 and was a daughter of the late Virgin Young and Edna Harris Young. She was the widow of John Joseph Kennedy and was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ray Young. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Dennis and Jayne Kennedy, Pearisburg, James Michael and Mary Kennedy, Summersville, S.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Tom Rotenberry, Vinton. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the Thorn Springs Cemetery, Pulaski, Va. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg, Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

LEE, Edna M., 83, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, October 1, 1995. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lee; sister, Ida Woody, and twin sister, Eva Wagner, brother, G. O. McClearn. She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Douglas E. Steele, Charlottesville, Joyce Stroud, Mentro On The Lake, Ohio, Marvin E. Steele, Chesapeake, Raymond O. Steele, Roanoke; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth M. Miller, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Ruby McClearn, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. H. LEE, Emmett Harry, 1st., 69, of 32 Elm Avenue S.W., Roanoke, died at his home. He was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church where he served as Director of Acolytes for many years. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II and he was a retried Barber and Auctioneer. A committal service will be conducted in Saint John's Episcopal Church, Columbarium at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and a Memorial service will be conducted at the Church at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Thomas P. O'Dell, the Rev. W. Frank Allen and The Rev. Calotta B. (Lottie) Cochran officiating. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

LITTLETON, Richard Berkley, 80, of Covington, died Sunday, October 1, 1995. Graveside services 2 p.m. Tuesday, Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Loving Funeral Home.

LITTLETON, Richard Berkley, 80, of 921 White Oak Drive, Covington, died Sunday, October 1, 1995 at Alleghany Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Littleton was born April 8, 1915 in Covington, a son of the late Richard C. Littleton and Mary Berkley Littleton. A native of Covington, he was a member and former Deacon of Covington Baptist Church. Mr. Littleton was the former owner and operator of Littleton's Shell Station on the corner of Monroe and Riverside. In June of 1966 he was appointed Postmaster of the Covington Post Office, a position he held for a short period of service due to health. He was a graduate of Covington High School, former committee member of Troop 115 B.S.A., a member of Covington-Hot Springs Rotary Club, former member of American Legion Post #4, and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corp., attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Mr. Littleton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Clingan Littleton, Covington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard B. and Beverly Littleton Jr., Salem, Robert C. and Joy Littleton, Covington; three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Littleton, Charlotte, N.C., Robert Michael Littleton and John Berkley Littleton, both of Covington. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emily Campbell Littleton earlier this year. A funeral service will be held at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Gibby officiating, assisted by the Rev. Addie Davis. Pallbearers will be Steven Parker, Stephen Nicholson, Steve Minter, Tad Robertson, Richard Bowyer and Kenneth Anderson. Alternate pallbearers will be Olen Bennett, Ardie Gardner, James Steger, Chester Kruszyna, Gary Ellis, Clarence Forren, J.R.T. Bowen, Paul Lacy Jr. and Paul Kesterson. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Covington Rescue Squad or Covington Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at the Loving Funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LOGAN, Sylvia C., 89, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, September 30, 1995. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 3, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, North Congregation, 823 Whitney Ave., N.W. (off Williamson Rd., N.W.), with burial in Williams Memorial park. Mr. Julius Sutton will officiate. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service Tuesday at the Hall. MARSH, Daisy Beatrice, 93, of Salem, died Sunday, October 1, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allie Morris Marsh Sr., her son, George William Marsh, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Survivors include her children, Bertha G. Wood, Robert H. Marsh, Earnest A. Marsh, Cecila Beatrice Nunn, Betty Randall, Allie Marsh Jr., Rosetta Kirkman and James E. Marsh; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 1995, by Chaplain Bruce Robinson in the John M. Oakey & Son Salem Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Butts Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. MAYHEW, James Ronald (""Ronnie""), 40, of 934 Burks Hill Road, Bedford

died Monday, October 2, 1995 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born in Bedford September 28, 1955 son of James Roy and Jacqueline Owen Mayhew. He was an employee of Aerofin of Lynchburg with 20 years of service and a member of Bedford M oose Lodge #1897. In addition to his parents he is survived a son, James Justin Mayhew; two daughters, Samatha Nichole Mayhew and India Leilani Mayhew; a sister, Bonnie Sue Mayhew and two special friends, Larry Daugherty and Phillip D. Reynolds all of Bedford. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 4, 1995 at 2:00 P.M. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray T. Lyons officiating. PENCOFF, Charles Nicholas, of Alexandria, died Saturday, September 30, 1995 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Flora J. Pencoff. He is also survived by one daughter, Karen L. Pencoff; one son, C. Ivan Pencoff, and his wife Karen M.; one brother, Nicholas Pencoff; one sister, Marie Graboyes. RAYDER, Mayree Montgomery Hotinger, 91, a resident of the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, ECF, Lexington, died Sunday, October 1, 1995. She was born on September 25, 1904 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late John Newton Hotinger and Hattie (Clemmer) Hotinger. Mrs. Rayder was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Wright Rayder Jr. Surviving are her husband, Samuel (Sam) Wright Rayder; two daughters, Mrs. Anne Marie (Rayder) Haugen, Scottsdale, Arizona and Mrs. Sandra Wright (Rayder) Arendall, Roanoke; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Rayder was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Lexington Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Williams Funeral Service, Lexington.

RHODES, Claude Swanson, 74, of Buchanan, died Sunday, October 1, 1995. SADLER, Mary Morris, 80, of Ripplemead, died Monday, October 2, 1995. Mrs. Sadler was born at Kimballton, Va., on November 26, 1913 and was a daughter of the late James Kent Morris and Mary Julia Carr Morris. Mrs. Sadler was the widow of Bard Sadler. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lee Doudy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Alva Meadows Jr., Pearisburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Birchlawn Abbey, with the Rev. Freddrick Long officiating. Interment will be in Birchlawn Abbey. SWARTZ, Norman Wayne Sr., 53. of 517 Witten St. Rocky Mount, died Saturday, September 30, 1995 in Floyd. Mr. Swartz retired from Bristol Manufacturers as Plant Manager and was an avid sportsman and hunter. Surviving are his children, Norman Wayne Swartz, Jr., Floyd, Don Craig & Sherry Swartz, Harrisonburg, Jamie Lee Swartz, Rocky Mount, Melissa Lynn Swartz, Roanoke; one step-daughter, Kristy Swartz, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Swartz, Tina Nicole Swartz, Don Craig Swartz, Jr., Sam Dalton Swartz, Jamie Lee Swartz, II; his mother, Mary M. TURNER, Alberta S., 81, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, October 1, 1995, at Bedford Co. Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Raleigh, W.Va. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Alberta Turner. Survivors include her husband, Manley V. Turner, Bedford; one son, H. Arthur Turner, Roanoke; two daughters, Amanda V. Turner, Bedford, M. Ester Turner, Richmond; granddaughter, Kimberly R. Turner, Washington, D.C.; grandson, Brian S. Wade, Roanoke; three sisters, Lucy Eldridge, Nancy S. Glover, Phyllis S. WRIGHT, Frank Dillon, (``Dilly""), 82, of Rt. 4, Rocky Mount, died Sunday afternoon, October 1, 1995 at Eldercare of Franklin County. He was retired from U. S. Steel with 30 years service, and was then employed with M W Manufacturers, and as a jailer and dispatcher with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, under Sheriff John Price. Surviving are his wife, Mary Kingery Wright; one daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Raymond Scott, Boones Mill; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Gracie Wright, Rocky Mount; one granddaughter, Susan Henson, Boones Mill; two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Henson and Stephen Henson; one brother, Velty Wright; one sister, Lola Brown, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Stephen R. Creech officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
