MOTORCYCLE PASSENGER KILLED ON I-81

A 49-year-old Pennsylvania woman was killed Tuesday in Wythe County when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger was hit by a car on Interstate 81 north of Rural Retreat.

Judy Faye Hoare of Pipersville, Pa., was riding behind her husband, Edmund J. Hoare, 52, when a car driven by 22-year-old Mary Ruth Echols of Bland passed a northbound vehicle and went back into the right lane, hitting the motorcycle.

State Trooper J.H. Hampton charged Echols, who was not injured, with improper lane change.

Judy Hoare was pronounced dead at Wythe County Community Hospital. Edmund Hoare was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with a broken leg and other injuries.
