About 12 deputies, investigators and other Montgomery County Sheriff's Office employees gathered around a small color television to watch the verdict. Just about all of them predicted the jury would decide on first- or second-degree murder.
"Look at all the evidence," said Investigator Bob Fleet. "Throw out Mark Fuhrman and the bloody glove - wouldn't a reasonable person see he's guilty?''
Fuhrman, they decided, was probably trying to be a "hot shot.'' "But did he plant evidence?'' asked Fleet. "No way. He would have let one of the evidence people find it."
They said they don't envy the Los Angeles Police Department, who now must try to reagain some credibility in the community.
