DUBLIN - A forum for local candidates in Pulaski County has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Rooker Hall auditorium at New River Community College.
The county Chamber of Commerce had originally scheduled it for Sept. 28 but it was postponed because of a death in the family of a candidate.
Candidates for county constitutional offices, the Board of Supervisors and School Board are all expected to participate. Unopposed candidates will get a minute for opening statements, and others will get three minutes before questions from the audience, written on index cards, are started.
A separate forum for School Board candidates has been organized by county parent-teacher groups for 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Pulaski Middle School auditorium.
All nine candidates for the five School Board seats will make brief opening remarks and then take questions from the audience.
Coming of age
BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Junior Women's Club and Junior Girl Scout Troop 2096 will sponsor a mother-daughter discussion on coming of age today at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church at 7 p.m.
A fashion show is also scheduled, and door prizes will be presented.
The cost is $5 per girl. It is recommended for girls age 8 through 12. Call 953-2912 for more information.
White Cane Days
CHRISTIANSBURG - Christiansburg Lions Club will hold its semi-annual White Cane Days on Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7. The club will solicit donations at Kroger, Wades, Food Lion, Hills, Wal-mart and Kmart. Donations will go to charities who fight blindness and sight impairments locally and throughout the world.
Speaking at Tech
BLACKSBURG - William McDonough, dean of the University of Virginia's School of Architecture, will speak on "Ecological Design Intelligence" at Virginia Tech Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in Squires Student Center.
McDonough is an advisor on President Clinton's Council on Sustainable Development, which promotes environmentally conscious building and design.
In 1992, he wrote the Hangover Principles, a compilation of ecological principles for the World's Fair in 2000 in Hanover, Germany.
