Storytellers meet

The Blue Ridge Storytelling Association will meet Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Roanoke Main Library. Participants are requested to bring a story to share. For more information, call 362-5338.

Grand opening

The Virginia Museum of Transportation will hold a grand opening for its new resource library and archives Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Call 342-5670.

Alumni reception

The newly established Staunton River High School Alumni Association will hold its kick-off reception tonight from 6-7:15 in the school's cafeteria. The event will be informal and informational and an opportunity to join the association. Call 890-0224 or 297-7151.

Festival of Trees

The annual Festival of Trees, a fund-raiser for the Mental Health Association of the Roanoke Valley, will be open to the public Nov. 24-Dec. 23 on the 21st floor of the First Union Tower in downtown Roanoke. Businesses and organizations interested in entering a tree should call 344-0931.

Parade entries

The Vinton Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries for the Vinton Christmas Parade, to be held Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. Marching units, floats, clowns and novelty units are invited to participate. 'Showboat' on stage

Indian Pow Wow

The first annual ``Indian Summer Pow Wow'' will take place Saturday and Sunday at Green Hill Park in Roanoke. American Indians from 25 different tribes will attend. There will be traditional dance, music and food. Hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for kids 6-12, 5 and under free. Concert fund-raiser

Lillette Jenkins-Wisner, a classical, jazz and gospel pianist, will perform Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. in Whitman Auditorium at Virginia Western Community College. Sponsored by Friends of the Roanoke Symphony, the concert is a fund-raiser for the Marionette Sprauve Music Scholarship Fund.

Professor speaks

L. Sandy Maisel, the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Government at Colby College, will speak at Hollins College Wednesday. The lecture, ``Clinton, Gingrich, and the Angry American Electorate,'' will begin at 8 p.m. in the Green Drawing Room of the Main Building. A reception will follow. Admission is free. Call 362-6451.

Cancer benefit

The 5th annual ``Clip for the Cure'' will be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Regis Hairstylists salons in Tanglewood and Valley View Malls. Stylists will offer $10 haircuts in the mall's court areas. Proceeds will benefit the Regis Foundation Breast Cancer Research. For more information call 989-3332.
