MINISTER TO SPEAK AT 4 LOCATIONS ON VISION FOR AMERICA

The Rev. Peter Marshall, a Presbyterian minister and nationally known author and speaker, will appear at four locations in the New River Valley Sunday through Wednesday. On Sunday, he will talk on "How America Can be Restored to Our Forefathers' Vision" at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead. Marshall will speak on "Is the U.S. on the Verge of a Moral Civil War?" at Pulaski County High School Monday at 7 p.m., at Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center Tuesday at 7 p.m, and on Wednesday at Radford University's Heth Ballroom at 7 p.m. The events are open to the public. 651-6313.

Marshall is the son of Peter Marshall, the chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1947 to 1949, and Catherine Marshall LeSourd, author of many best-selling books. A graduate of Yale University and Princeton Theological Seminary, Marshall is the author of the best-selling "The Light and the Glory," and "From Sea to Shining Sea." He was given the 1986 Faith and Freedom Award by the Religious Heritage of America.

SERVICES

Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church on Alleghany Spring Road will celebrate its annual Fall Festival today at 7 a.m. with a breakfast and yard sale. Games, crafts and singing will occur throughout the day. 268-2152.

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. This week's readings will be Habakkuk 1: 2-3; 2: 2-4; Psalms 95: 1-2, 6-9; 2 Timothy 1: 6-8, 13-14; Luke 17: 5-10; 1 Peter 1: 25. Children's religious education is offered every Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Grove United Methodist Church in Radford will celebrate "Blanket Sunday" Sunday. Members will be able to buy blankets for $5 to be donated to needy people nearby and around the world. Sunday is also "Tailgate Sunday," when Radford High School athletes will be honored. 639-2807.

Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel on Church and Lee streets will host Chris Faulconer Sunday at 7 p.m. Wednesday Faulconer will teach the last in a series in the art of storytelling at 7 p.m. 953-5041. Also Wednesday, Estill Putney and John Dumais will conduct the fifth in a series of workshops on the "Celestine Prophecy" at 7 p.m. 951-4848.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg, will host Rudi Gelsey, who will talk on "Are You Ready for a Unitarian Universalist Evangelism," at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. First Missionary Baptist Church in New River will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its Gospel Choir Sunday. The Rev. Michael Bratton and The Spirits of Joy from First Baptist Church in Pearisburg will be special guests.

Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church will have a revival Sunday through Wednesday. Services Sunday will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., with services Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Evangelist and author Jerry B. Walker will speak. Cecil Albano 639-6287.

The Rev. Earnest Chenault will appear during a revival at Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church in New River Sunday through Wednesday. He will appear Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Church members may buy chrysanthemums for $5 in remembrance of a special person in their lives, and the fellowship hall will be dedicated to Charlie Forbes, a former Sunday school superintendent. Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg will start an informal evening worship Oct. 18 at 7:30. The 45-minute service is for people who work on weekends, community newcomers and people looking for a midweek worship opportunity. 382-2223.

West Radford Church of God will have a revival with Chris Dutruck Oct. 22 through 25 at 6 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 7 p.m. Oct. 23 through 25.

HOMECOMINGS

Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Floyd celebrates its 125th anniversary with a love feast and communion today and homecoming Sunday. 382-2050, 745-4497 or 745-4860.

Oak Grove Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday with the Rev. Willie Yates as guest speaker. The Bolt Brothers and the Other Brothers will perform at 2 p.m., with Sunday school at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and a potluck lunch at 12:45 p.m.

JOYFUL NOISES

The monthly singing at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers' Union building in Fairlawn, today at 7 p.m., will feature the Gospel Strings, and special guests Gospel Truth and Rivers Edge. Admission is free for the 67th consecutive month of singing by local gospel groups. 382-4654.

Second Chance, the local group that was awarded Trio of the Year and released a recording in March, has changed its name to Greater Love, after learning that other groups are using the name Second Chance. 639-6271.

Montgomery County area churches will have their Lord's Acre Sale today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Radford Auto Auction building on Mudpike Road.
