Chittum anniversary

Odell and Lois Chittum of Vinton are celebrating their 40th anniversary today, October 8, 1995. Lois is the former Lois Jean Clark. The couple was married on October 8, 1955, in Bedford, Va. They were surprised with a limousine ride to Applebee's Restaurant, and they enjoyed a memorable day with their family. They have five daughters, Wanda, Patsy, Donna, Sandy and Karen, and one son Keith. They have 11 grandchildren, Matt, Shawn, Chevy, Sasha, Alisha, Travis, David, Michael, Dustin, Sarah, Casey and one more on the way!

Hale anniversary

Richard & Gertrude Hale recently celebrated their 50th anniversary Sept. 23, 1995. A reception was held at West Salem Baptist Church. The celebration was hosted by their son & daughter-in-law, Steve & Kay Hale & Patsy Bullock. The couple were married Sept. 29, 1945. She is the former Gertrude Wilkerson of Buchanan, Va. and is retired from Hofheimers. He is retired from Sidney's as shoe buyer & was formerly with Hofheimers. They have two granddaughters, Emmylee and Savana.

Holpp anniversary

Family and friends of John and Alice Holpp celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a picnic barbeque at their home in Vinton, Virginia, on Saturday, October 7, 1995. The couple was married on October 7, 1945, in Freedom, Ohio. The celebration was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Danny Adams, and their granddaughter, Kristin.

Raykes anniversary

Thomas J. and Thelma C. Raykes celebrated their 46th anniversary October 3, 1995. They were married October 3, 1949 in Radford, Va. at the Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was 15 years old, he was 22 years old. He is a retired welder and she is a housewife. They live in Salem, Va. She's the former Thelma Mae Cayton of Radford. They have four children, Rhonda Lee Raykes of Winter Park, Fla., Deborah Ann Raykes of Raleigh, N.C., Karen R. Stacey of Roanoke, Va., and Thomas J. (Dusty) Raykes, II of New Castle, Va.; and one grandchild, Danielle Renee Raykes of Floyd, Va.

Thacker anniversary

Charles B. and Anne C. Thacker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 3, 1995 aboard the Sovereign of the Seas, while enjoying a seven-day Caribbean cruise.

The couple was married in the Garden City Baptist Church and they have been permanent Roanoke residents. Mrs. Thacker is the former Annie Jane Conner and is retired from Sears credit department. Mr. Thacker is originally from Richlands, Virginia, and is retired from Norfolk Southern. He is a member of the Cave Spring Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Klown unit of the Kazim Shrine Temple.

The cruise was a gift from their daughter, Pamela Ursoy (Roanoke); sons and wives, Michael and Victoria Thacker (Roanoke), and Douglas and Jill Thacker (Orlando, Florida); and six grandchildren in appreciation of their years of love, support, and friendship.
