SALEM WOMAN'S TIPS LEAD TO ARREST OF RAPE SUSPECT

A Salem woman supplied police with information that led to the arrest Monday of a man she accused of rape.

Toby D. Taylor, 45, of Dante in Russell County was arrested on charges of rape at about 3 p.m., 40 minutes after the 20-year-old woman accused him of raping her in her home, said Sgt. T.N. Guthrie.

The woman said Taylor showed up at her home unannounced Monday, Guthrie said.

About 2:20, the woman called police and led them to a Salem residence where she said the suspect had gone.

Taylor was an acquaintance of the victim's family, Guthrie said.

He has been released from Salem/Roanoke County Jail on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond.
