PVT. MARK A. BURNS, son of Frank M. and Linda Burns of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Burns is a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

AIRMAN MICHELLE A. GREENE, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Greene is the daughter of Johnny H. and Antoinette W. Greene of Roanoke and a 1994 graduate of Northside High School.

MATTHEW B. STRATTON, son of Richard W. and Sharon T. Stratton of Vinton, recently completed an ROTC field training camp at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Stratton, a 1993 graduate of William Byrd High School, is a student at North Carolina State University.

JACK E. GLOVER, son of Jack E. Glover of Vinton, recently attended an Army ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C. Glover, a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School, is a student at Virginia Military Institute.

AIRMAN APPRENTICE DWIGHT J. HILLARD of Troutville and STAFF SGT. DOUGLAS D. MINNICK of Roanoke are serving aboard the USS America in the Adriatic Sea, near Bosnia.

Hillard, son of Dwight A. and Dot Hillard, graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1990. Minnick, son of Rita B. and William M. Grisso Jr., is a 1983 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

W.H. JEREMY PARR, son of Duane and Nancy Parr of Roanoke, recently received a promotion to Marine corporal while stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He also has received his second Meritorious Mast recognition.

Parr graduated from Northside High School in 1993.

SECOND LT. AARON R. CRAIG, son of Ralph and Eva Craig of Vinton, graduated from Officer Candidate School in Quantico and was commissioned to his present rank. He's undergoing training for new officers at Quantico. Craig, a 1990 graduate of William Byrd High School, also received a bachelor of arts degree in 1994 from Roanoke College.

PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Melissa and Ray Foster Jr. of Blue Ridge, recently received the Navy Commendation Medal while serving at the Submarine Training Facility in Norfolk. Foster was recognized for his outstanding performance as the damage control/firefighting division supervisor. He serves aboard the USS Phoenix.

Foster is a 1993 graduate of Staunton River High School.

COAST GUARD CHIEF PETTY OFFICER WAYNE G. MIESEN of Roanoke recently took part in the commissioning ceremony for Coast Guard Port Security Unit 305 in Portsmouth. Miesen is a 1975 graduate of Roanoke College and has been a Roanoke police officer for 20 years.

PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS CHRISTIAN E. BURNETT, LANCE CPL. JASON T. FRIDLEY, PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS STERLING E. MOTLEY, PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS REGINALD L. PRICE, all of Roanoke, and newly promoted FIREMAN RECRUIT BRANT G. TURNER of Salem recently returned from a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, which recently participated in the NATO air strikes in Bosnia.

Burnett is the son of Keith and Lou Burnett. Fridley, a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School, is the son of Jan Austin of Roanoke and William Fridley of Eagle Rock. Motley, a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, is the son of Dianne Forrest. Price, a 1986 graduate of William Fleming High School, is the son of Ralph Price and Shirley Barbour. Turner, a 1994 graduate of Salem High School, is the son of Glenn and Twila Turner.

ARMY PVT. JASON S. SOBATAKA, son of Jeffrey and Mae Sobataka of Salem, recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is a 1995 graduate of Glenvar High School.
