UNION VOTES PENDING

Workers at three Western Virginia companies have petitioned for elections determining whether they will be represented by unions, according to the National Labor Relations Board.

The 110 production and office employees at MascoTech Body System & Assembly in Salem are scheduled to vote Nov. 16 whether to be represented by the United Auto Workers, the NLRB announced this week.

MascoTech last year established its Salem operation to supply accessorized engines and axles to Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp. in Dublin.

The NLRB also reported that 65 drivers, mechanics and other employees of Jennings & Webb Inc. in Covington will vote Friday on representation by the United Paperworkers international union. The trucking firm has a contract with J.B. Hunt to provide services for Westvaco Corp., NLRB records said.

Also, the Communications Workers of America has petitioned for a representation vote by 13 service, maintenance, warehouse and dispatching employees of Adelphia Cable Communications in Martinsville, the NLRB said.
