CHRISTIAN YOUTH CONVENTION BEGINS FRIDAY

The two-day "Aquire the Fire" youth convention for teen-agers who want "an awesome encounter with the living God" begins Friday at the Salem Civic Center.

The convention, sponsored by Teen Mania Ministries of Tulsa, Okla., features a "slammin' and jammin' praise and worship band," comedy skits, a video wall and pyrotechnics displays.

"We are seeking to meet with God," ministry founder and president Ron Luce said in a news release. "We aren't talking about a bunch of cheese-ball Christian mumbo-jumbo."

The fee for the Friday night and all-day Saturday events is $30, payable at the door. Registration is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. An hour and a half youth leader reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Youth leaders get in free. Friday evening ends with a 7 to 10 p.m. session.

Saturday's events run from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Call Teen Mania Ministries, (800) 329-3473, for more information.
