NRCC ENROLLMENT INCREASES

New River Community College enrollment has increased 9 percent compared to the number of students enrolled during last year's fall semester.

NRCC has 3,456 students enrolled to date, an increase of 291 students compared to the enrollment on the same date last year.

"We're obviously quite pleased with this healthy increase," said Ed Barnes, NRCC president.

"Not only is our head count enrollment significantly higher, but we also have an increase of more than 5 percent in full-time equivalent enrollment."

The increase at NRCC is due to a number of factors including growth at the college's Christiansburg site, enrollment of students under the Welfare Reform Act, increased involvement in economic development, and an increase in distance learning students.
