Barker-Huie

Melissa Ellen Huie and George William Barker, Jr. were married on October 14, 1995 in McCabe Memorial Baptist Church in Martinsville. The officiating clergyman was Rev. Calvin Rains. A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Best Western, Martinsville.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Martin of Martinsville, and the late Richard J. Huie, Sr. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Aaron, Sr. of Martinsville, and Mrs. Zelma Huie of North Wilkesboro, N.C., and the late Claude Huie.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Barker, Sr., of Axton, Va. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Burnette of Eden, N.C. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Muscoe Barker of Axton, Va.

Special music was provided by Ms. Tammy Davis of Martinsville, pianist; Mr. Bruce Hullett of Winston-Salem, N.C., vocalist; and Mr. Tim Norman of Bassett, Va., was D.J. at the reception.

Lauren Cassell, daughter of Travis and Melissa Murphy Cassell of Collinsville, was the flowergirl. She carried a basket with flower petals. Mason Kendall, nephew of the bride, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Kendall of Axton, was the ringbearer.

The bride wore a candlelight silk gown with a fingertip veil and chapel length train.

The bride is a Travel Agent with Danville Travel Service. The groom is self-employed.

Following the wedding trip to Negril, Jamaica, the newlyweds will reside in Axton, Va.

\ Chattin-Brown

DeeAnn Carol Brown and David Mark Chattin were married September 16, 1995 in Goodview Baptist Church, with Pastor Joey Phillips officiating. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

The bride was given in marriage by her grandmother, Mrs. Frances Brown. Maid of honor was Lisa Sowers, best friend.

The groom' s father, Larry Chattin, was best man. Ushers and candlelighters were Vincent Light and Ronald Morris, friends of the groom. The guestbook was attended by Cara Sowers. The wedding coordinator was Beanie Johnson.

The bride's gown was made by the groom's mother, Mrs. Edna Chattin. She carried a bouquet of mauve roses.

The bride is a graduate of Northside High School and is employed by Valley Nephrology Associates.

The groom is the son of Larry and Edna Chattin. He is a graduate of Staunton River High School, Moneta., and is employed by Larry B. Chattin and Sons, Inc.

The newlyweds will live in Goodview, Va.

\ Claud-Rhodes

Amy Logan Rhodes and Jonathan Pierce Claud were united in marriage on Saturday, October 14, 1995 in a 7:00 p.m. ceremony at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, Virginia. The Reverend Tupper Garden officiated the candlelight double ring ceremony. A reception followed at The Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents, was escorted by her father. She wore a gown of candlelight white silk with a sweetheart neckline and bodice of re-embroidered alencon lace and beaded pearls with a chapel length train.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rhodes of Roanoke, Virginia and the granddaughter of Mrs. Clarence B. Williams and the late Mr. Williams of Petersburg, Virginia, and the late Mrs. Anne Rhodes Marshall of Clifton Forge, Virginia. She is employed by the Botetourt County School System.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Phebe Claude of Troutville and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Claud of Norfolk, Virginia. He is the grandson of Mrs. Raymond M. Kinzie and the late Mr. Kinzie of Troutville, and Mrs. Shirley P. Claud and the late Mr. Claud of Norfolk. He is employed by Old Dominion Glass, Inc.

Wendi Stanley of Fredericksburg, Virginia served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kristie Turner of Roanoke, Alison Whitt of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, friends of the bride, and Lisa Moore, cousin of the bride, of Greensboro, Georgia. Neely Rosebro of Roanoke served as guestbook attendant, and Morgan Guritz, cousin of the bride, was flowergirl.

Thomas P. Claud, father of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Gregory Claud, brother of the groom, of Norfolk, Virginia, Bradley Powell and Glenn Thompson, both of Roanoke.

Bridesmaids were Miss Ellen Poff, Mrs. Terry Nelson, Mrs. Kim Bequette, friends of bride, and Miss Kimberly Saunders, cousin of bride. Flower girl was Page Shepherd, friend of bride. Stephen J. Clayton, father of groom, served as best man. Ushers were Mr. Mike Johnson and Mr. Jack Johnson, friends of groom. Groomsmen were Mr. Stephen Clayton, brother of groom, Mr. Jeff Saunders, brother of bride, Mr. Joel Sweeney, Mr. Andrew Monsour and Mr. Jeff Simpson, friends of groom. Candlelighters were Mr. Jeff Saunders and Mr. Stephen Clayton. Guestbook was attended by Mrs. Laura Monsour. The bride is the daughter of Mr. F. E. Saunders, Jr., and Ms. Rebecca M. Saunders, Charleston, W. Va. Her grandparents are Mrs. Martha Richardson, Mrs. Frances McKemy and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Saunders. She is a graduate of East Banks High School, East Banks, W. Va., and is employed by Allstate Insurance. The groom is the son of Mr. Stephen J. Clayton of Troutville, Va., and Ms. Janet L. Clayton of Salem, Va. His grandparents are Mrs. Dorothy Clayton and Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Seitz. He is a graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School, Roanoke, Va. He is employed by Roanoke Seat Cover. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach.

Melissa Joan Shrader and Lieutenant John Dixon were married September 2, 1995, in the Lemoore Naval Air Station Chapel, California, with Chaplin Eugene Oleson officiating. The reception was held at Lemoore Naval Air Station Officer's Club. The matron of honor was Beth Holiway, sister of bride. Bridesmaids were Diana O'Connell, grooms sister, Eve Nicholson, Kris Mooney, Kriss Bouchard, Leslie Lorenz, Michelle Moreau and Tammy McMahon, friends. F lower girls were Lauren Holiway and Alyssa Holiway, nieces. John R. Dixon, father of groom, served as best man. Ushers included Don Braswell, Joe Ihlan, Shawn Oliver, Bob Underwood, Jon Groh, friends, and Jimmy Shrader, bride's brother, Andrew O'Connell, groom's brother-in-law. Ring bearer was Jerrod Overmyer. Candlelighters were Maria Larvin and Peggy Falkenberg, and Lisa Graft attended the guestbook. The bride wore a gown with white lace beaded bodice and full tulle skirt and long cathedral train. She carried a bouquet of burgundy roses with baby's breath. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Shrader, Lemoore, Calif. She is a graduate of Fresno State University and is returning to school to earn a B.S. in Nursing. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Dixon of Bedford, Va. He is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and is employed by the United States Navy-F18 Pilot. The newlyweds will live in Lemoore, California, after a wedding trip on a 7 day Royal Caribbean Cruise.

\ Fields-Farmer

Patricia Ann Farmer and Robert Kyle Fields were married on September 23, 1995 in Charleston, S.C., at First Baptist Church. Dr. Frank Smith officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Farmer of Salem, Va. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fields of San Angelo, Texas.

The bride graduated from Radford University and is employed by State Farm Insurance Co. The groom graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. He is a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.

The newlyweds are residing in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., after a wedding trip to Europe.

\ Fortner-Weaver

The marriage of Dr. Julie Hope Weaver, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Warren E. Weaver of Richmond, to Dr. Glenn Weeks Fortner of Richmond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben G. Fortner, Sr. of Roanoke, took place October 14, 1995 at Second Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Robert Mayo, organist, and Bruce Swartz, trumpeter, who delivered a beautiful rendition of ``Trumpet Voluntary'' by Jeremiah Clarke as the bride was escorted to the altar by her father. She wore a custom designed dress of white silk shantung embellished by alencon lace and pearls at the bodice, sleeves, and hem. She also wore a single strand of pearls given to her by the groom as a wedding gift. She carried a cascading bouquet of white roses and greenery.

Miss Susan Foster of Nashville, Tennessee was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Dr. Tina Tedeschi from Niwot, Colorado, and Miss Maureen Cullen, Mrs. Debra Fortner, and Mrs. Denise Fortner, all of Richmond. Miss Caitlin Ashworth, also of Richmond, was the flower girl.

Mr. Ben G. Fortner, Sr. of Roanoke was his son's best man. Groomsmen included Ben G. Fortner, Jr. and Kenneth B. Fortner, both from Richmond and brothers of the groom, Glenn H. Weaver, brother of the bride from Boones Mill, and Dr. Robert George of Yorktown. The ring bearer was Nathan Adair, nephew of the bride, from Pittsburgh, Pa.

The reception was held at the Bull and Bear Club. Cocktails and dinner were followed by dancing to the music provided by the Kings of Swing.

The bride is a pediatrician with the Pediatric Center in Richmond, and the groom has his own dental practice in Richmond's West End.

Following a honeymoon in Maui, the couple will live in Glen Allen, Va.

\ Gunter-Smith

Fellowship Baptist C hurch was the setting for the October 14th wedding of Brandy Lynn Smith and Steven Roger Gunter. The two o'clock ceremony was performed by the Reverend Carter L. Sloan.

The bride was attended by Susan Brizendine, matron of honor, and Melissa Gunter, sister of the groom. Shannon Smith, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. Alexis McSherry, cousin of the groom, was flower girl.

David Gunter served as his brother's best man. Groomsmen were Joe Blackwell and Jason Smith, brother of the bride. The ring bearer was Scott Gunter, nephew of the groom. Soloist was Tyler Brown, cousin of the bride.

A reception followed the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

Brandy is a daughter of Gary W. and Sally M. Smith and the granddaughter of Mrs. Violet Irvine and Mrs. Eva Smith, all of Roanoke. Steven is the son of Marcy and Clarence Gunter of Salem and the grandson of Thomas McSherry and Norma McSherry.

Brandy is a graduate of William Fleming High School and attends Virginia Western Community College. Steven is a graduate of Glenvar High School and is a manager with Country Cookin'.

After a wedding trip to the Eastern Shore, the couple will make their home in Salem.

\ Lemon-DeLong

Connie Sue DeLong and Brian Scott Lemon were married September 15, 1995 in a candlelight service at Moneta Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Williams was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

Amy Jackson, friend of the bride, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Vicky Chisom and Amy Duty, sisters of the bride. The flowergirls were Brittany Webster and Megan Steeves.

Tracy Epperly, friend of the groom, served as best man. The ushers were Mark Crockett, friend of the groom; and Joshua Carter, cousin of the groom. The ringbearers were Caleb Chisom and Gabe Duty, nephews of the bride. Jessica Carter was the guestbook attendant.

The bride wore a gown of candlelight bridal satin featuring a princess bodice, push-up sleeves adorned with lace, simulated pearls and sequins. The chapel length train was detailed with lace appliques, pearls, sequins, bow, and scalloped lace hem. The bride's fingertip veil was attached with lace appliques, pearls and sequins that complemented the gown. The bride carried a bouquet of Roses, Stargazer Lilies, Baby's Breath and Ivy.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. DeLong of Moneta, She is a graduate of Franklin County High School and attended Virginia Western Community College. She is employed by Revco.

The groom is the son of Ms. Patricia Lemon of Hardy. He is a graduate of Staunton River High School and is employed by Food Lion.

Following the wedding trip to Atlantic Beach, N.C., the newlyweds reside in Moneta.

\ McCoy-Wright

Tammy Michelle Wright and Travis Kevin McCoy were married October 14, 1995, at Dublin United Methodist Church with the Reverend Richard Patterson officiating. A reception was held in the Richardson Room of the church following the ceremony.

The matrons of honor were Debbie Shouse and Diane Smith, sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Crystal Cook, niece of the bride, Tracy McCoy, sister of the groom, and Sharmin Quesenberry, friend of the couple. The flower girl was Amanda Tuggle, friend of the family. The guestbook attendant was Leanne Farlow, cousin of the groom.

Terry McCoy served his son as best man. Groomsmen were David Honaker, Mark Ramsey, Dean Russell, and Shawn Workman, friends of the couple. Bill Farlow, cousin of the groom, Brian Hollins and Chad Cook, both nephews of the bride, served as junior groomsmen and acolytes, and also rang the church bells at the conclusion of the ceremony. John Shouse, great-nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer.

The bride is the daughter of Paul and Lorraine Wright of Pulaski. She is a graduate of Radford University and is employed by Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc.

The groom is the son of Terry and Brenda McCoy of Dublin. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is employed by Xerox Corporation.

After a honeymoon in the Cayman Islands, the newlyweds will reside in Fairfax, Virginia.

\ McPhaul-Shatley

Laura Michelle Shatley and John William McPhaul, Jr., were married October 7, 1995, in First United Methodist Church, Franklin, N. C., with Rev. Carl W. Dumford of Charlotte, N. C., officiating. The reception was held at Mill Creek Country Club. The matron of honor was Ms. Sharon Stewart, bride's sister. Bridesmaids were Miss Lee McPhaul and Miss Kathryn McPhaul, groom's sisters, Miss Kim McCoy, bride's cousin, Miss Trish Croom, Miss Kim Gibson, Miss Shannon Fox and Miss Jennifer Beatty, bride's friends. The flowergirl was Miss Carley Shephard. Mr. John William McPhaul, father of groom, served as best man. Ushers included Mr. Jay McPhaul and Mr. Tripp Plummer, groom's cousins, Mr. Joey Swafford, Mr. Landon Swafford, Mr. Reid Baxter, Mr. Brian Yaudes, Mr. Brad Ohrt, Mr. David Chester, groom's friends. The ring bearer was Ian Stewart. Music by Miss Sonya Downes, Ms. Mary Pittman, Mr. Doug Amaxopulos. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shatley, Franklin, N. C. She graduated from Appalachian State University and is employed by Kemper Insurance Co. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mr. John William McPhaul, Roanoke, Va. He graduated from Appalachian State University and is employed by Burlington Industries. The newlyweds will live in Matthews, N. C., after a wedding trip to the Cayman Islands.

\ Moore-Price

Kristie Renee Price and David Earl Moore were married September 23, 1995 in Rainbow Forest Baptist Church, Troutville, Va. Pastor Mark Ellis officiated, assisted by Doug Sweeney.

Mrs. Jennifer Barnes was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Sally Roberts, Deidre Mattox, Amy Shirley, Cheryl Tablett, Brenda Nininger, Susan Moore, Regina Boone, Amy Dooley, Faye Harris, Johnna Dillon, and Shannon Goodwin. Flower girls were Joy Via and Ella Kate Brown. Program attendants were Tammy Goldsmith and Christy Fons.

John Moore, father of the groom, was best man. Lane Christian Moore, the couple's son, was honorary best man and ring bearer.

Groomsmen were Kelly Price, Allen Moore, Tim Barnes, Scott Moore, Mike Nininger, Gus Demetriades , Eric Foutz, Tim Lyon, Brent Wills and Bart Sweeney.

Wedding coordinator was Leisa Epperly, assisted by Paula Harper, who also was the guest book attendant.

Special music was sung by Jennifer and Tim Barnes and David Morgan, accompanied by pianist Karen Russell, and organist Alan Bays. A special guitar medley was played by Chris Griffith.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Price of Troutville, Va. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Price, Elizabeth Dean, and Ralph Dean, all of Roanoke, Va. She is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and attended Virginia Tech and The College of Health Sciences.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Moore of Fincastle, Va. He is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, Virginia Military Institute, and is a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He begins flight school in October.

Mr. and Mrs. Moore, and their son Lane, will reside in Pensacola, Florida.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds, Jennifer and Tim Barnes, and Kelly Price surprised their parents by arranging a special ceremony for them to renew their wedding vows. Billy and Peggy Price were married thirty years ago. Pastor Mark Ellis officiated. Matron of honor was Joyce Sweeney, and best man was Doug Sweeney, special friends of the family.

Kristie and David would like to thank the many friends who made their wedding and reception a very special memory, and all the RFBC family for their prayers and unconditional love.

\ Overstreet-Fitzpatrick

Laura E. Fitzpatrick and Keith A. Overstreet were married July 22, 1995 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Glenwood, Maryland. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Art Lillicropp. The recepti on was held at Waverly Mansion, Marriottsville, Maryland.

The maid of honor was Mindy Levene, friend. The bridesmaids were Carolyn Daughters, Ann Forno, Cari Garvey, and Mary Stathopoulos, friends. The best man was Andy Overstreet, brother of the groom. The ushers were Guy Hart, Sam Jones and Turtle Patterson, friends. The usher was Brian Sites, friend.

The bride is the daughter of Dave and Peggy Fitzpatrick of Ellicott City, Md. She is a graduate of James Madison University and the University of Virginia. The bride is employed by St. Andrew's School, Savannah, Ga., as a Spanish Teacher. The groom, son of Carl and Elizabeth Overstreet of Bedford, is a graduate of James Madison University. He is a Pilot with the United States Coast Guard.

Following their wedding trip to Europe, the newlyweds reside in Savannah, Georgia.
