GALLERY TO FEATURE WORKS BY DAURA

The Daura Gallery on the campus of Lynchburg College is celebrating its renovation and 4,400-square-foot addition with a retrospective show of more than 100 works by Pierre Daura.

The opening is on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Daura, born in 1896 in the Catalonia region of Spain, was chair of the art department at the college in the mid-1940s. He also taught at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in the 1940s and 1950s.

Daura died in 1976. He and his wife, Louise, are buried in Rockbridge County.

The exhibition includes works by Daura in all media, including paintings, drawings, sculpture and engravings. The addition to the museum was a gift from his daughter, Martha Daura, who also loaned several Daura pieces for the show.

The gallery's hours are Monday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibition runs throught Feb. 29.
