THEY HAD TO ASK ...

When word spread of media interest in the silly questions that come into downtown Roanoke's Center in the Square, the people at the Roanoke Valley Visitor Information Center decided to get in on the act.

Joe Turner and Barbara Todd came up with their own list of ill-begotten inquiries received at the visitor's center. Here they are:

Is this the Lost Colony?

Lost tourists is more like it. The Lost Colony is an attraction on Roanoke Island - in North Carolina.

Can you direct me to the place in Salem where the witches were hung?

Sure. It's on Broad Street, right between the Washington Monument and the Alamo.

What day do the leaves turn?

Why, whenever we decide to throw the switch. Could be next week. Could be in June.

How long can you park in a one-hour spot?

Oh, just ignore those silly signs.

And finally:

Where is the visitor's center?

You're soaking in it.
