The Science Museum of Western Virginia will sponsor a ``Creative Chemistry: Mask-Making Workshop''on Saturday and Sunday. The two-day workshop, for children age 6 and older, will teach the children the basics of chemical and physical reactions through mixing, molding and painting. Sessions run from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Preregistration is required. The fee, which covers all materials and instruction, is $25 for members/$35 for non-members. Call 342-5727.
Genealogical meeting
The Southwestern Virginia Genealogical Society will meet Saturday from 1:30-4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Roanoke City Library at 706 Jefferson Street. The featured speaker will be lawyer and author Mary B. Kegley, who will present two seminars: ``Evaluating Evidence for Genealogical Purposes'' and ``Virginia-West Virginia Connections in Land Records.'' Admission is free. Call 890-3991.
