ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Consumer Price Index stood at 153.2 points at the end of September, up about 2 percent from 152.9 in August. After adjustments for seasonal variations in consumer prices, however, the change was listed by the government as a 1 percent increase.

The index rose 2.5 percent from 149.4 points a year ago. That means a collection of goods and services that cost $149.40 last year carried a price tag of $153.20 last month.

The base period of 100 is an average for 1982-84. If the government still used 1967 as a base year, the index would stand at 459, meaning goods and services that cost $100 in 1967 would cost $459 today.
