BLACKSBURG NIPS FLOYD COUNTY

Blacksburg's April Rogers scored with three seconds left, giving the Indians a 53-51 non-district victory over defending Group A champion Floyd County on Monday night in Floyd.

Rogers scored 18 points and Karly Geller added 15 for Blacksburg. The Buffaloes had a chance to tie the score with 1.8 seconds remaining, but missed two free throws.

Melissa Cantrell scored 14 points and Julie Sowers added 13 for Floyd County.

Marion 63, George Wythe 59: Leigh Jones scored nine of her 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Scarlet Hurricane edged the Maroons in a non-district contest in Wytheville.

Marion used a strong second quarter to take a 34-21 lead. The teams played closely through the third period before Wythe rallied in the fourth quarter. Jones went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and her team was 11-for-14 during the final period.

Allison Jennings had 14 points for Marion, Stacy Miller added 11 and Amanda Hall had 10.

Megan Johnson scored 15 points to lead Wythe. Tabitha Cook had 14 points and Alethea Lemieux added 10 rebounds.

Graham 48, Christiansburg 42: Graham outscored the Blue Demons 17-9 in the decisive third quarter as the visitors won a non-district game.

Graham had a balanced scoring attack, with three players in double figures. Graham's Tamala Oakes scored 17 points to lead all scorers. Beverly Proffitt had 12 points and Kristi Maupin added 11.

Lisa Dalton and Kristin Habeeb scored 13 points each for Christiansburg.

Grayson County 64, Bland 47: Lindsey Carico scored 23 points to lead the Blue Devils past the Rockets in a Mountain Empire District game in Bland.

Grayson County took a 26-18 halftime lead and never trailed again.

Pachess Umbarger scored 17 points for Bland, which lost three of its eight players to foul. The Rockets missed 20 of 32 free throws.

Giles 47, Craig County 30: The Rockets' shooters went cold in the second and third quarters, and the Spartans took advantage to win a non-district game in New Castle.

Kelli Ratcliffe scored 10 of her 16 points in the first half and Keeli Whetzel added 10 points on the night for Giles (7-7).

Bonnie Boardwine scored 11 points for Craig County (1-11).

Narrows 67, Pochantas 39: Bud Lucas scored 17 points and Suzanne Webb chipped in 11 as the Green Wave rolled past the Indians in a non-district game in Narrows.

The Green Wave (13-0) took a 19-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Melissa Lawrence had 11 assists for Narrows and Becky Turner had eight rebounds and four steals.

Mandy Dawson scored 11 points to lead Pochantas (0-12).

Covington 69, Highland 40: The Cougars snapped a five-game losing streak in a victory over the Rams in a Pioneer District game in Covington.

Covington (5-9, 2-4) had a balanced scoring attack, led by JoAnn Helton, who had 17 points and six assists. The Cougars' Michelle Jeter added 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Stacie Venable had 10 points and eight rebounds.
