MAN ASKING FOR CHANGE ROBS STORE

A man asking for change robbed the Stop-In at 1650 Hershberger Road N.W. late Sunday night, police said.

About 9:10, a man asked for a quarter to make a phone call. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man reached over the counter and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash. Police have not made any arrests.

In other news from the weekend, Roanoke police said:

A man delivering pizza was robbed at gunpoint late Friday in Southwest Roanoke. About 11:47 p.m. a man, wearing all black and brandishing a handgun, robbed a Pizza Hut delivery man in the 500 block of Allison Avenue. The man took more than $100 in cash after he threatened to kill the deliverer.

A 20-year-old Southwest Roanoke man was shot in the thigh by a man trying to sell him a gun Saturday.

Police said Chauncy Leon Combs of 15th Street Southwest told them the man was showing him a revolver when it discharged. Combs said he didn't know the man, who left the scene after the shooting.

Combs was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley and released, according to a nursing supervisor.
