SALEM STAR HITS MILESTONE IN WIN

Shellie Johnson became the fourth girls' basketball player in Salem history to score 1,000 points as the Spartans defeated Robert E. Lee-Staunton 64-47 on Monday night in a non-district game in Salem.

Johnson, a senior, had 14 points and sophomore Sarah Palmer led all scorers with 20 points and added 14 rebounds for the Spartans (10-3).

Katrina Lassiter led Lee, the 1994 Group AA champion, with 14 points and Lesley Mader added 12.

Giles 47, Craig County 30: The Rockets' shooters went cold in the second and third quarters, and the Spartans took advantage to win a non-district game in New Castle.

Kelli Ratcliffe scored 10 of her 16 points in the first half, and Keeli Whetzel added 10 points on the night for Giles (7-7).

Bonnie Boardwine scored 11 points for Craig County (1-11).
