2 MEN BEAT, RAPE WOMAN IN ROANOKE

A 35-year-old Roanoke woman was beaten and raped by two men early Tuesday, police said. The exact time and location of the offense were not determined.

Police gave this account:

The woman was walking on Williamson Road Northwest from the 3600 block to the 3800 block. She accepted a ride from two men who said they would drive her to a friend's house in the Lincoln Terrace housing development.

One of the men, saying he needed to go by an uncle's house, drove to an isolated, dead-end road, where the woman and two men got out of the car. One of the men beat the woman, then the two men raped her. One of the men took $10 from her.

The woman was able to get to a Northeast Roanoke house, where she called police at 3:16 a.m. She was unable to identify the location of the offense.

Police said her face was severely beaten. She was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.

In another incident, Roanoke police said a wallet was stolen from a 65-year-old man near Chapman Avenue Southwest late Monday by a man who asked to borrow $2.

Police said Averett Holder told them he was walking to a store from his home about 11:50 p.m. when a man approached him. At the store, Holder purchased a pack of cigarettes and a 40-ounce beer for the man. Once outside the store, the man asked to borrow $2. As Holder took out his wallet, the man grabbed the wallet and fled. The wallet contained $6.
