BAKER, Laura Mae Stephens, 74, of Pearisburg, died Monday, October 16, 1995 in the Roanoke Rehab Center. Mrs. Baker was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. She was a lifelong member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church. She was born at Eggleston, Va. on June 20, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Charles E. Stephens and Edna Johnston Stephens. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Garnett Stephens, a sister, Christine McGinnis. She is survived by her husband, Earnest B. Baker; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Mike Collins, Pearisburg; three brothers, Larence Stephens, Herman B. Stephens, Joseph R. Stephens, Sr., all of Pearisburg; two granddaughters, Jill and Traci Collins, Pearisburg; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel Pearisburg, with the Rev. Charles McGinnis and the Rev. Larry Patton officiating with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

BOWYER, Barbara Greig, 65, of Roanoke, died Sunday, October 15, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

BRUCE, Willie Beverly Jr., 52, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, October 14, 1995. He is survived by one daughter, Bevette Allwyn Bruce; one granddaughter, Nikita Gunn; mother, Mrs. Cleopatra Bruce, all of Roanoke; aunts and uncles, Margaret Fizer, Sterling G. Fizer Sr., Roanoke, Leonard Fizer, Springfield, Ohio, Charles (Bessie Mae) Fizer, Lawrenceville, N.J., Walter (Evelyn) Fizer, Roanoke, Sallie Ann (Lewis) Harris, Charlottesville; devoted cousins, Patricia Cooper, Santa Clara, Calif., Stephanie Simmons, Sterling G. Fizer Jr., Rhonda Fizer, all of Roanoke; very special little cousins, Sterling G. Fizer III and Bryan Butler; and a host of relatives and friends. DAMERON, Robert Samuel 87, of Buena Vista, died Monday, October 16, 1995 at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Extended Care Facility. He was born May 22, 1908 in Welch, W. Va., son of the late Charles P. Dameron and Lula Corder Dameron. He was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church and The Durham Sunday School Class. He was retired from the Greyhound Bus Corporation after 45 years as a driver. He was very active in the Democratic Party, where he served as a Co-Chairman for a number of years. He served a member of the Buena Vista City Council, and on a number of Civic Committees. He was Assistant Scout Master and Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #68 for 24 years, having received the Silver Beaver Award and other awards. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Dameron. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Motley Dameron; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Mansour Katwan, Palo Alto, Calif., Sammy and Gordon (Tally) Burnett, Buena Vista, Susan (Dilly) and Joseph Hartless, Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Woodrow W. Dameron, Marietta, Ga.; the following grandchildren, Robert Burnett and David Burnett, Buena Vista; Najla Helm, Mill Peters, Calif., Samir Katwan, Palo Alto, Calif., Suzanne Katwan, Mountain View, Calif., Dina Katwan, Palo Alto, Calif., Joseph Hartless, Jr., Jennifer Hartless, both of Modesto, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Jason and Kevin Burnett, and McKayla Burnett, all of Buena Vista; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the St. John's United Methodist Church in Buena Vista, with the Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. HALL, William Taylor, (``Bill""), 82, of Copper Hill, died Tuesday, October 17, 1995, in a Salem hospital. Surviving are his wife, Ruth H. MICHAELS, John Louis, 81, of Collier Street, Dublin, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 1995 in the Roanoke Community Hospital. Born January 15, 1914 in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late John Louis Michaels Sr. and Madaline Michaels Lysat, stepson of Lester L. Lysat, all deceased residents of Maplewood, N. J. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #196 Maplewood, N. J. and American Legion Post, Maplewood, N. J. He was a retired Police Lt. of Maplewood, N. J. Police Dept. with thirty years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in WWII. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Robin Cox, Dublin, Va. Surviving are his wife, Jessie Hoover Michaels, Dublin, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Michaels Berman and Barry Berman, North Hill, California; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Hoover and Jan Hoover, Newbern, Va., Charles E. Hoover and Diane Hoover, Blacksburg, Va.; sister, Katherine Michaels, Maplewood, N.J.; grandchildren, Steve Cox, Newbern, Va., Jennifer Hoover, Radford, Va., David Hoover, Paul Hoover, and Katheryne Hoover, all of Newbern, Va.; great-granddaughter, Kristy Cox, Dublin, Va. PARKS, Sadie Sisson, 99, of Salem, formerly of Brandon Ave., passed away, Tuesday, October 17, 1995. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Cora M. Sisson. She was the widow of Marvin B. Parks Sr. Mrs. Parks was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and the Electa Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin B. Jr. and Martha Dame Parks, Seaford, Deleware; grandchildren, Melinda Long, Salsbury, Md., Mary Margaret Parks, Seaford, Deleware, Melissa Cullen, Greenville, S.C., Melanie Alvey, Suffolk, Va., Matthew Parks, Bethany Beach, Deleware; one great-grandchild; brothers, J. RUIZ, Jose Angel, 49, of Madiera Beach, Fla., died Monday, October 16, 1995, in Tampa, Fla. He was born in Havana, Cuba, and moved to the Bay Area three years ago from Roanoke. He was Vice President of Distribution for Home Shopping Network in Roanoke for eight years. Survivors include his mother, Virginia Ruiz; his sister, Maria Virginia Ruiz, both of Havana, Cuba; his companion, David L. Witt, Madiera Beach, Fla.

SCOTT, Lewis H., 76, of Route 3, Rocky Mount, died Monday, October 16, 1995 at his residence. Mr. Scott was a veteran of World War II, was a member of First Church of the Brethren, and was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. B. Scott; four brothers, Grady, Nelson, Grover and Paul Scott; a sister, Wilma S. Woods. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Scott, of the home; one son, Roger Scott, Lynchburg, four grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elma Young, Nellie and Clem Rakes, Ferrum; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Polly Scott, Culpeper, W. B. and Eva Scott, Burkville, Leo and Geral dine Scott, Ferrum; a dear friend, Joe Wooldridge; many nieces, nephews and friends. SCRUGGS, Clifton Alvin ``Al'', 70, of Route 4, Moneta, passed away Monday, October 16, 1995, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born November 9, 1924 in Moneta, a son of the late Phillip Bruno Scruggs and Eda Ayers Scruggs. He was a retired truck driver. He is survived by a son, David A. Scruggs, Moneta; grandson, Christopher Scruggs, Moneta; sister, Mrs. Harris (Juanita) McGuire, Wirtz; half sister, Mrs. Brady (Thelma) Poindexter, Roanoke; two half brothers, J. B. Cundiff, Wirtz, W. C. Cundiff, Hardy; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, October 19, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Burial Park, Boones Mill, by the Rev. Tommy Floyd and the Rev. Melvin Harris. WATERFIELD Ramond Elwood, 74, of Rt 2 Moneta and formerly of Va. Beach passed away Monday in a local hospital. He was a retired Merchant Marine after 27 years and was preceded in death by wife Rudy Bell Waterfield. Surviving step-children include Thomas B. Simmons, Marion S. Jordan both of Bedford John S. Simmons of Chesapeake, Rudy Annette Bailey, Elizabeth City North Carolina, Ray E. Simmons, Linda S. Gregory both of Chesapeake, Pat S. Ballengee of Moneta and James F. Simmons of Chesapeake. WHITE, Hubert S., Jr., of 607 West Stuart Drive, Galax, passed away at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Monday, October 16, 1995. ``Whitey'', affectionately known by his friends, was a retired automobile dealer in Galax. He owned and operated White Chevrolet Sale, Inc., a Chevrolet-Olds Cadillac dealership which was founded by his father and was operated by the family for fifty years. He served as a General Motors Community Relations Program Chairman for several years, and was a very active member of Chevrolet's Charleston Zone Dealer Councils as well as Oldsmobile and Cadillac Councils. Mr. White served as President of Blue Ridge Automobile Dealer Association, a fine county organization, and in 1973 was elected president of the Virginia Automobile Dealer Association. He was born January 28, 1929 in Richlands, to the late Hubert S. White, Sr. and Sara Humphrey White. He attended the Galax City Schools, Fort Union Military Academy, Hampden-Sidney Colle ge, and graduated from National Business College, Roanoke. He also attended the Post Graduate School of Modern Merchandising and Mangement sponsored by Chevrolet Motor Division in Detroit, Mich. A veteran, he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter, Marion, during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 0141, Richmond. Mr. White was a member of the First United Methodist Church, having served on the Board of Stewards and Board of Trustees. He was a Mason and member of Oldtown Lodge #68, Galax, and a Shriner and member of the Kazim Temple, Roanoke. When active, he served on several different boards, namely Galax Retail Merchants Association, YMCA, Galax Athletic Association, Salvation Army (Galax Unit). He was a former Vice President of the Galax, Carroll, Grayson Chamber of Commerce and the Galax Development Corporation. He was a past President of the ``Galax Leafs'' Baseball Club and the Galax Country Club. He also served as an Advisary Member of Fork Union Military Academy's Athletic Center Building Project before final construction of the new field house. He was a member of the UCT, Elks, Moose Lodge and a Kentucky Colonel. An avid sports fan, ``Whitey'' was a former pro-baseball player with the Washington Senator's Organization and was elected to the Galax Gazette's Sports Hall of Fame in 1985. In high school, college and service he played football, baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Virginia All Star Baseball Team in 1946 and 1947. Surviving are his wife, Doris Laws White, of the home; a daughter, Sarah Jane White, Johnson City, Tenn.; a son, H. Stuart White, III, Fairfax; two aunts, Pauline Humphrey and Gwendolyn Alder, Cedar Bluff. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 19, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Galax, by the officiating minister, the Rev. Kenneth Perkins. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. WILEY, Virginia Davis, 97, of 224 Troy Avenue, Roanoke, formerly of Allisonia, Va. and McDowell County, W. Va., died Tuesday, October 17, 1995 at a Salem, Virginia Retirement Center. Born in Allisonia, Virginia March 4, 1898, she was the daughter of the late W. A. ``Albert"" and Betty Branscome Davis. She was educated in Allisonia, Virginia. She had served with the U. S. Postal Service at Thorpe, W. Va. for many years and was a very active member of the Thorpe United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Music program as well as the church pianist. Mrs. Wiley had moved to Roanok e, Va. from Thorpe, W. Va. in July of 1959. She was a member of the Huntington Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband Paris Allen Wiley, a son, Eugene Earl Wiley and a brother, John E. Davis. Survivors include one son, Mr. J. Edwin Wiley, Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Betty W. Powell, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Dolly Dorton, Bristol, Va.; one brother, Mr. J. L. Davis, Filbert, W. Va.; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. ZMITROVIS, Charles William, 73, of Hardy, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 1995. He retired from Pan American Airlines to Smith Mountain Lake, where he lovingly enjoyed gardening, painting, boating, and handmaking toys for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lois Tupper Zmitrovis; his four children, Karen LoGrosso, Ellen Hudson, Mark Zmitrovis, and Justin Zmitrovis, all of New York; his three stepchildren, Carolyne Pion and Alan Pion of Maryland, and John Pion of Fairfax; and his 10 grandchildren, Justine, Isabel, Calder, Kara, Daniel, and Sean, all of New York, Nikita and Leif of Maryland, and Michael and Lydia of Fairfax, Va. The family will receive visitors at Oakey's Vinton Chapel from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 1995. Funeral services will be conducted on October 19, 1995 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kirk Ballin officiatin g. Interment following at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.
