Beth Coughlin scored both goals for Hollins in a 2-2 tie with Sweet Briar in a women's soccer game that extended to two overtimes. Hollins is 4-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Cave Spring's Alicia Todd pulled the upset of Patrick Henry's Laura Dickinson 7-6 (7-2), 6-1, but it was not enough to keep Patrick Henry from winning the Roanoke Valley District girl's tennis championship held at River's Edge.
Patrick Henry, which advances to the Northwest Region tournament on Monday at C.D. Hylton, was led by Sarah McCorkle, Betsy Roberts, Ann Forsythe and Erin Rutherford, who each won their respective singles matches. Despite the loss, Dickinson also qualified for the regional tournament as the district's top singles player.
In doubles action, Dickinson and Forsythe defeated Todd and Heather Krause 6-2, 6-2, and Roberts and McCorkle def Malio Miller and Carly Stover 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) to give the Patriots the title.
The VMI Keydet Club will meet today at noon at the Jefferson Club in Roanoke to watch film of VMI's football game last Saturday with Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Dale Ford, an American League umpire for 22 years, will be the featured guest at a charity reception Nov. 4 at the Hotel Roanoke to raise money for the Cave Spring National Little League.
The little league has undertaken a community-service project to raise $150,000 for improvements to the facilities at Starkey Field.
