KENTUCKY ANGLER LEADS BASSMASTER FIELD

The tidal waters of the James River were good to Mike Auten of Benton, Ky., during the first day of the BassMaster Top 100 Tournament.

Auten caught a limit of five bass weighing 23 pounds, 12 ounces, which was 9 pounds, 6 ounces more than his closest competitor caught Wednesday. Auten also had the big bass of the day, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

David Dudley of Lynchburg caught a limit of five bass weighing 11 pounds, 7 ounces and is in ninth place. Woo Daves of Spring Grove caught a limit weighing 9 pounds, 11 ounces and is in 17th place.

The tournament runs through Saturday.

Daily weigh-ins are at 3 p.m. at Osborne Boat Landing in Henrico County.
