CALDWELL, Marshall Boyd, 89, of Newport, died Wednesday, October 18, 1995, in a Salem nursing home. He was a lifelong resident of Craig County, a retired farmer and painter, and the New York Yankees' biggest fan. He was also a member of New Bethel Christian Church and the son of Oscar E. and Minnie Duncan Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Eva H. Caldwell; one daughter, Bertie Ann Henderson; two granddaughters, Billie Jean Butler, Ann Boyd Boothe; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, all of Roanoke. He is also survived by three sisters, Cambie Huffman, Pembroke, Lottie Johnson, Roanoke, Eileen Curry, Waynesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 2 p.m., at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel, New Castle, with interment in Ross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

LILLY, Norma Francis, 86, of Radford died Thursday, October 19, 1995 in Highland Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, Walter B. Lilly, Radford,; two grandchildren, Susan Pendleton, Blacksburg, and Steven Lilly, Statesville, NC,; and a step granddaughter, Jackie Lemmon, Blacksburg. MANESS, Charles Edwin (``Ed'') 77, of Stuart, died Wednesday evening at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Parkton, N.C., to the late William L. Maness and the late Beulah McNeill Maness. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Love Man ess of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Peggy) Beavers of Yadkinville, N.C., and Mrs. James (Betty Jane) Gruver of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Sarah Cramer and Ruth Elmer, both of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, Dr. Paul F. Maness of Burlington, N.C., and William H. Maness of Jacksville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. Mr. Maness served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church, the Stuart Lions Club, the Piedmont Coin Club, American Legion Post 105 and was a former member of Stuart Volunteer Fire Department. He was employed with Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville from 1938-1940, with Mays Funeral Home from 1940-1957 and was the former manager and vice-president of Moody Funeral Home in Stuart where he began his employment in 1957. He received the Golden License Award for over 50 years of service in the funeral business from the Virginia Funeral Director's Association. Funeral services for Mr. Maness will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Stuart, with the Rev. Robert Thorne officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. MARTIN, Gary Dean, 49, of Fruit Heights, Utah and formerly of Pembroke, Va., suddenly was called home to be with his Savior in Paradise, from his earthly home, Wednesday, October 18, 1995. Gary was the son of Margie William Ferrell and Marvin Eugene Martin of Pembroke, Va. He was a graduate of Giles High School, Class of 1964 and was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served the church in the Western States Mission. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Selma S. Martin. Gary is also survived by his wife, Elizabeth Martin; his stepmother, Ellen Martin of Pembroke; and his stepfather, James Ferrell of Pembroke; his twin brother, Barry Gene Martin of Farmington, Utah; his sons, Jason Martin, Salt Lake City, Utah and Chris Martin and his wife, Kelley, of Sandy, Utah. Funeral services and burial will be conducted in Utah Saturday. MILTON, Elta Morris, 88, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 19, 1995. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Mrs. Milton was the widow of Robert G. Milton, and was also preceded in death by one son, Robert G. Milton Jr. in May, 1995. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce M. and Paul D. Rotenberry; daughter-in-law, Sue H. Milton, all of Roanoke; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at the grave in Evergreen Burial Park 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. PRICE, Cella Mae, 90, of Pembroke, died Thursday morning, October 19, 1995, in Riverview Nursing Home at Rich Creek. Born in Pembroke, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Mary Ella Smith Johnst on. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pembroke and managed the food service for the Pembroke Schools prior to her retirement. Cella was the devoted wife of the late James Price, the mother of the late Frances P. Shorter, the grandmother of the late B. Scott Price and the sister of the late Robert Johnston, Shuler Johnston, Alfred Johnston and Elizabeth Johnston. Surviving are two sons, James A. Price Jr. of Lynchburg, Daniel C. Price of North Augusta, S.C.; one daughter, Lois P. Wooten of Virginia Beach; one brother, Edward Johnston of Pembroke; four sisters, Margaret Caldwell of Kimballton, Pauline McCall of Pembroke, Lyda Coffman of Montvale, Reba Shields of Shawsville; a sister-in-law, Stella Johnston of Pearisburg; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Paul Thompson of Radford. Mrs. Scott was Vice President and Secretary for the M.E. Scott Medical Services, Radford. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Morgan E. Scott Sr., Radford; four sons, Ted H. Thompson, Knoxville, Tenn., Michael E. (""Scotty"") Scott, Dublin, Donald Robert Scott, Clinton, Tenn., and Edward Anthony Scott, Greenville, S.C.; a stepson, Morgan E. She was a life-long member of Glade Creek Lutheran Church, and was the widow of Sam Smelser Sr. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel H. Jr. and Willamae Harper Smelser, Blue Ridge; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Harley O. (""Buddy"") Baker Jr., Roanoke; six grandchildren and spouses, Dean Allen and Cyndi Mays Baker, Blue Ridge, Rodney Darryl and Patrice Smelser, Roanoke, Ronald Owen and Terri Baker, Reginald Lee and Anne Smelser, Rebecca and Kenny Arthur, and Melissa Markham, all of Blue Ridge; three great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; sister, Selma Katherine Spickard, Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. THACKER, Raymond R. Jr., 73, of North Charleston, S.C., passed away Wednesday, October 18, 1995. He was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church and served in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Thacker retired from General Electric and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy White Thacker. Surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Irene Thacker, Troutville, John and Faye Thacker, Roanoke; stepson, Lloyd C. TINGLER, Donald Woodrow, 60, of 2133 Azalea Road, Daleville, formerly of Rt. 1, Eagle Rock, died Wednesday evening, October 18, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 3, 1935 in Alleghany County and was the son of the late William Henry and Maude Armentrout Tingler. He had retired in 1993 as a Machine Operator after 32 years with Hercules Incorporated in Covington. Mr. Tingler was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Daleville and of Clifton Forge Lodge #1683, Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are two sons, Danny W. Tingler, Daleville, Mark K. Tingler, Roanoke; one daughter, Mrs. Christopher (Debbie) Hylton, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Hylton and Christopher J. Hylton Jr., both of Roanoke; two brothers, Arnold W. Tingler, Covington, GA., James H. Tingler, Iron Gate, VA.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lee Andrews, Covington, Mrs. Melvin (Nancy) Cook, Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Born May 6, 1918 in Montgomery, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late James and Annie May Hubbard Whaley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Ulysses Tinsley. She is survived by a daughter, Amy Tinsley Fields, Lexington; a son, Nelson Tinsley, Clifton Forge; two sisters, Doris Henderson, Montgomery, Ala. and Ollie McCoy, Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Captain Frederick Charles Wiesner, United States Navy and daughter of the late Artlissa Hart Richardson and Edward Lancaster Richardson of Roanoke, Virginia. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Pluma R. Gallagher and Mrs. Charlotte R. Baker, both of Roanoke; four nephews, Clayton H. Richardson of Richmond, Virginia, William D. Richardson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Edward L. Richardson of Roanoke, and Edward P. Kinney of El Cerrito, California; and two nieces, Charlotte Kinney Hines of Roanoke and Many Richardson Britt of Stuart, Virginia. Graveside funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, with the Rector of St. Dunston Episcopal Church of McLean, officiating. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
WRIGHT, Lloyd Murrel, of Madison Heights died Tuesday, October 17, 1995, at his home, following a brief, courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of the Lynchburg area, Mr. Wright was the son of the late James Robert Wright and the late Carie Candler Wright. He was a well-known and respected business man who for many years was co-proprietor of Wright Brothers Meat Markets along with his bother, the late Alfred Wright. Lloyd was proud of his service to his country, having served in the U.S. Navy as Gunner's Mate, Third Class in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Of particular note and obvious to all who met him were Lloyd's keen mind, wit and extreme business acumen. He was a devoted grandfather to his adored granddaughter, Yvonne, who brought much pride and joy to his life. Survivors who deeply mourn his loss include his daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Christopher W. Powell of Roanoke; one son, Wilbur Lynn Wright, and one stepson, Charles Samuel Wallower, both of Lynchburg; his beloved granddaughter Yvonne Alexis Powell of Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law Elton F. and Joyce Wright, all of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Special appreciation is extended to Mr. Wright's friend, Betty Gunter, of Madison Heights, who provided much help and support during his illness. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, with the Rev. C. Lloyd Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
