PEACEMAKING IS FOCUS OF VISITING PASTOR'S PRESENTATIONS

Clinton M. Marsh, an internationally known pastor, educator and peacemaker, will spend three days in Blacksburg beginning Sunday, talking about race and peace issues at Virginia Tech and in local churches.

On Sunday at Northside Presbyterian Church on Progress Street in Blacksburg he will attend an 8:45 a.m. potluck breakfast and then lead a class on "Peacemaking: Home and Family, Community and World." He will preach on "Reconciliation" at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m.

At 7 p.m. Sunday, Marsh will appear at Tech's Cooper House and at a soup and substance forum at the university's Squires Student Center Monday at noon. He will participate in a reception and dialogue on "Racism: An inherited Malignancy" at Tech's Black Cultural Center in the student center at 5:15 p.m.

Tuesday at 10 a.m., Marsh, a former moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, will be featured speaker at the Presbytery of the Peaks meeting at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Marsh's visit is sponsored by Tech's dean of students, Cooper House, and a number of local Presbyterian Churches. For more information, call 552-2473.

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths during Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. This week's readings will be Exodus 17: 8-13; Psalms 121: 1-8; Timothy 3:14 and 4:2; Luke 18: 1-8; and Hebrews 4:12.

Goodwin's Ferry Church on Spruce Run in Blacksburg will have a special service Sunday at 2 p.m. for Roy Vaught. 552-2343.

Laurel Hill Church of Christ on Dry Valley Road in Radford will host evangelist Lewis Mikell Sunday through Thursday during regular Sunday services and at 7:30 p.m. each night. 763-9825.

Cambria Baptist Church will have a revival Sunday through Wednesday. Sunday's Bible study is at 9:30 a.m., and worship is at 10:50 a.m. Evening services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and noon meetings will occur Monday through Wednesday. Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel on Church and Lee streets will host Paula Markham Sunday at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Estill Putney and John Dumais will conduct the seventh in a series of workshops on the "Celestine Prophecy" at 7 p.m. 951-4848.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg, will host Barry Whittemore, who will speak on "Politics and Theology: Liberal Religion and the 1995 Election" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Spiritual emphasis services will be held at Blacksburg's First Wesleyan Church on Giles Road Sunday through Wednesday, with guest speaker Rev. John Holland from Madison, N.C. The East Side Church of Christ on Houchins Road in Christiansburg will have a Gospel Meeting Sunday through Friday. Services on Sunday will be at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and services on Tuesday through Friday will be at 7:30 p.m.

West Radford Church of God will have a revival with Chris Dutruck Sunday through Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg conducts a new informal evening worship Wednesdays at 7:30. The 45-minute service is for people who work on weekends, community newcomers and people looking for a midweek worship opportunity. 382-2223.

JOYFUL NOISES

A benefit concert for the Montgomery County Christmas Store, featuring the Farley Brothers, Redeemer's Quartet, Strings of Faith, Wanda Gail and the Young at Heart, will be today at 7 p.m. at Auburn High School. Park United Methodist Church will have its Fall Harvest Bazaar today at 9 a.m. The event will feature arts and crafts, events for children and a turkey dinner at 10 a.m. Carryout and delivery are available. Adults $4, children 6-12, $3, children under 6 $2. 382-4062.

Church pews will be for sale during a yard and bake sale at the Church of the Nazarene on Peppers Ferry Road today from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will go the building fund. 382-6355.

Glenwood United Methodist Church in Barren Springs will have its Fall Festival today, featuring at country breakfast at 7 a.m., crafts, baked goods and apple-butter making, and a hot dog lunch at noon.

Faith Temple Church in Pearisburg will have its Fall Festival 95 Friday through Oct. 29. St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg is sponsoring a video series on Managing Your Money on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. In November, the church will conduct a six-week series on "Building Up Self Esteem in Your Mate.

Jehovah's Witnesses in Radford recently came together and completed a new building in less than a week. Hundreds of local and state volunteers worked on the project.

The Young Women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently held their Young Women in Excellence program, in which they focused seven different areas of personal progress. Some of the young women, ages 12 to 18, completed displays showing their talents or interests, and others sang songs or read poetry.

The Shawsville Lay-Ministerial Association, an interdenominational gathering of churches in the Shawsville area, will help pay utility and grocery bills and with emergency expenses. Keith Ritchie, 268-5901.

Youths at Auburn United Methodist Church will perform house cleaning, mowing or weeding. Donations will be used to go to a youth conference. 382-4318.

Christian Community Outreach in Radford has a food outreach on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available first come, first served to families and people who meet USDA income criteria. 639-5686.
