GIRL, SNEAKING OUT OF HOUSE, DIES IN ACCIDENT

A teen-age girl's death while she was trying to sneak out of her house late at night has drawn fresh attention to the problem of teens leaving home without their parents' permission.

``It's starting at younger and younger ages than before. Many parents think, `It's not happening in my house,' and of course, it could be,'' said Linda Flickinger, president of the Langley High School Parent Network.

Elizabeth Gould, 16, rolled one of her family's cars out of the garage without turning on the ignition Wednesday night, Fairfax County police said.

As the car began to roll backward down a slight incline, the girl was pinned between the open driver's side door and a split-rail fence on the edge of the property, police said.

The 11:30 p.m. crash woke Gould's parents, who called 911. Their daughter was pronounced dead at Fairfax Hospital. The cause of her death is under investigation, police said.

The girl's parents, Geoffrey and Paula Gould, declined to talk to a reporter. The family had recently moved from Texas, and the girl attended Langley High School.
