OLD INN GETS NEW MANAGER

CHARLES F. INGALSBEE JR. has been named general manager of the Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, recently acquired by The Camberly Hotel Co., a hotel management company based in Atlanta. Camberly purchased the hotel, which was built in 1832, in September.

Ingalsbee has been in the hospitality industry for 20 years, most recently at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pa. Before that, he was managing director of Cap Juluca, a resort in Anguilla, British West Indies.

His career includes stints at The Homestead in Hot Springs, where he was general manager, and at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

AGRICULTURE

JOYCE TICE of Boones Mill was elected to the board of the Red Angus Association of America. Tice will be director of Area VII-Northeast.

BANKING

At Piedmont BankGroup in Martinsville, MICHAEL R. BLEVINS has been appointed vice president/chief investment officer, BRENDA H. SMITH has been named vice president/corporate controller, and DAVID A. SOUTHON has joined the company as vice president/asset and liability management.

DONNA WILSON has joined PNC Mortgage, a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank, as a loan officer. Wilson, who brings 12 years of mortgage banking experience to her position, will be responsible for developing new business in Roanoke, Salem and Lynchburg.

COLLEGES

JUDITH L. NELSON has been appointed vice president for resource development at Roanoke College in Salem. Nelson replaces JAMES W. HARKNESS, who has resigned. She has been director of development at the college since 1993. MICHAEL C. MAXEY has been named vice president for college relations and dean of admissions and financial aid. Maxey, who had been vice president for admissions since 1989, will take on additional responsibilities including public relations, marketing and publications.

ENGINEERS

DONALD K. JAMISON, professor emeritus at Virginia Military Institute, has received the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers' Pletta Award, which is given annually to recognize a Virginia educator for outstanding teaching and public service. Jamison, who has continued to teach part-time at VMI since his retirement in 1992, formerly was head of the department of civil engineering and director of the engineering division.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT

ROBERT STEVENSON has been named controller of Dominion Air and Machinery Co., a Roanoke-based distributor of industrial air compressors and machinery. Stevenson has been a tax and financial planner since 1982 and is certified in both public accounting and financial planning.

HOSPITALITY

KEVIN J. ROSA has been appointed national sales manager at The Greenbrier resort hotel in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Rosa comes to The Greenbrier from The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., where he was sales manager for the Midwest corporate and incentive markets.

LAW

KENNETH J. LASKY has become a member of the law firm of Magee, Foster, Goldstein & Sayers in Roanoke. Lasky, who has extensive experience in immigration and naturalization law, will also work in bankruptcy, business and personal injury law. Also at the firm, WILLIAM E. CALLAHAN JR. has become an associate. His practice includes commercial and business litigation with an emphasis on creditors' rights, bankruptcy and personal injury law.

MANUFACTURING

JERRY RUFF has been appointed vice president-sales and national sales manager at the Lane Division of The Lane Co., a furniture manufacturer based in Altavista. Ruff previously was regional sales manager for Lane's southeast region. He replaces RONALD A. TOLAND, who has been named vice president-national accounts.

Georgia-Pacific Corp. recently named JIM LeFEW communications manager at its Big Island paper mill. LeFew comes to the company with eight years' experience in communications, most recently as manager of communications at International Paper Co. in Georgetown, S.C.

MEDICINE

DR. ROBERT LEE BROWNLOW JR. has joined the staff of Vista Eye Center, Roanoke-based ophthalmologists. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Brownlow will diagnose and treat diseases of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

DR. J. BRUCE HAUSER, a radiologist at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals, has been named a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He was selected for his contributions to the field of radiology.

MORTICIANS

MICHAEL L. HAMLAR has been elected president of the Western District Funeral Directors' Association, which is the local district of the Virginia Morticians Association, and H. CLARKE CURTIS was elected second vice-president of the Virginia Morticians Association. MARILYN L. CURTIS is past president of the association. All are employees of Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home in Roanoke.

NONPROFITS

PAT BATEMAN has joined the staff of the YMCA of Roanoke as the Central Branch director. Bateman, a former professional tri-athlete, previously was aquatics director of Carter Athletic Center at North Cross School.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners recently elected founding officers for its Roanoke Area Chapter: GARY BASSETT, Norfolk Southern Corp., president; GREGORY WOOD, Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield, vice president; and DANA LONG, city of Roanoke, secretary-treasurer. H. RAY ELLIS, First Union National Bank of Virginia, and WALTER JONES, the Internal Revenue Service, were appointed to the board as members-at-large.

BRIAN T. DUNCAN, assistant director of economic development for Roanoke County, has been elected to the board of directors of the Virginia Economic Developers Association.
