ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The number of passengers boarding planes at Roanoke Regional Airport fell 19 percent last month compared with September 1994, when fares were lower.

Last month's count was 26,362, compared with 32,476 in September 1994. September is usually a busier air travel period than August, but, this year, September's ridership was off 6.64 percent from 28,238 departing passengers in August.

In the first nine months of 1995, 241,386 passengers got on planes in Roanoke, down 12.69 percent from the 276,478 boardings in the first nine months last year.

Cargo loaded at the airport was up 43.83 percent for the year so far, with September up 17.15 percent over last year. However, September was off 6.05 percent from August.
