WOMAN HAPPENS UPON, HOLDS ALLEGED ASSAILANT

Fourteen hours after a 26-year-old woman was almost abducted, she happened upon her alleged assailant in a Southeast Roanoke ice cream store, holding him until police arrived.

Police officials said Karen Creasy told them she was at a convenience store at Fourth Street and Elm Avenue Southeast at about 12:30 a.m. Monday when a man grabbed her and tried to pull her into his vehicle. Creasy, who is 7 months pregnant, was dragged alongside the moving car. She was able to break free, but sustained bruises.

At about 2:36 p.m. the same day, Creasy and her husband found her alleged assailant at an ice cream shop at Ninth Street and Highland Avenue Southeast. Police were called to the scene and found Creasy's husband, Roger Creasy, holding a gun on the man. Police said Karen Creasy identified the man as her assailant.

Howard Macon Kidd, 24, of McLean was charged with attempted abduction. He remained in Roanoke City Jail late Tuesday. Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
